The second one is used for cranking the yoke off the pinion once the nut is removed.

'splain please.

Does the thread screw into something on the yoke, or is it a forcing screw?

Sounds like a title for a new thread, "Uses for a SHARPIE cap".

This may be an easy one, but I inherited this from an old toolbox that a friend pulled out of a scrapyard, and it took me a long time to find out what it was. It doesn't show well in the photo, but there is a ruler on the bottom edge of it.

I'm thinking for setting something like pinion depth.

Correct; the round ends sit in the saddles for the carrier. The flat part is the same height as the centerline of the rear axle shafts.

The hole in the middle allows a depth gage to go through the center and measure the face of the pinion gear.

Does the thread screw into something on the yoke, or is it a forcing screw?

Forcing screw: You strap the round portion into the yoke and then crank the screw, which pushes against the end of the pinion gear shaft.

Yeah, Kieth is right, it's a contour gauge. Dad had one and I used to mess around with it when I was a kid. Worked great until it started loosing the wires. I think I threw his away when I cleaned out his shop because so many wires were missing.

I see. In the pic it's a little hard for me to tell. It kind of looks like a pipe nipple more than a screw. Thanks.

Okay, here's the mystery tool(s). I have no idea what these are:

They both have that gear-like thing on them that does nothing on these things. I @$$ume the little blades that stick out of the sides are supposed to engage a slot in something else. Being they're brass my guess is they're a woodworking tool, or part of one.

Any ideas?

Those are old slid nail/staple pullers...grab a fencing staple or a nail with the jaw and work the slide to pull it out of the wood.
Actually, the jaws are set each side of the nail head, then the slide hammer is activated to drive the jaws to below the surface of the wood so that the jaws can grip the shank of the nail, then the whole tool is rotated so that the lever of the one jaw is resting on the wood, then rotated farther to pull the nail.
