Help please! Hood wont open!

the cable came distached from the latch and pulled out of the core support. I can not figure out how to get my hood opeen now. Fenders on and all. please help im soo frusturated over it

You'll have to remove the grill and look for the little lever that the cable end connects to. I figure it will have a hole and a shiny spot from where it was connected.

the grill isnt on and i looked up there and you can touch the hook like bracket but you cant fit anything up there to hit the latch.!!!

That big hook is not what holds it, that is like a secondary catch incase it accidentally pops on the highway. There should be another small lever with a hole in it that pulls (think the cable pulling it) that will release the main latch.

yes im aware but the cable pulled out. i cant fit anything in there to pull the latch.

If you can see the lever with the hole in it for the cable you may have to try a coat hanger or some other wire to hook it with. I thought maybe you could get it with a pair of needlenose pliers.

What about bending an old flat head screwdriver at a 90 in shoving it in there?

I helped my cousin do this last week. We got a hanger and lifted one corner of the hood. Just ran the hanger in the area of the cable and 30 min later snagged it. Just keep trying

Use a stepdrill. The grill is removed. Make a 1/2" hole up through the radiator frame and the bottom of the hood latch bracket.

Make it directly in line with the mounting bolts/weld nuts and a little off center - to the LH side.

That will provide plenty of room to get a screwdriver up in there. Should allow you to trip the latch - neatly and without destroying anything.

i think i'm about to start having this problem; my hood comes open a lot to check for where the coolant decides to start leaking from next and the hood cable is starting to get more and more slack in it. the little nut looking piece on the end of the cable is slowly sliding off; it looks as if it can be adjusted somehow; the nut looks like 1/4'' socket size. i'll take a picture when i get some light.

No, but it would seem to me you should be able to slide something over that cable as a spacer. How about clamping a fishing weight on the cable on the inside of that keeper to take up the space? Are you sure the latch itself is working properly?
