Well the fun keeps coming. Started back on it today. Took the injectors to be cleaned an flowed this morning. Also bought stuff to prime it with a weed sprayer too ($70).

Got the short block in the truck. Was lining up the trans an needed to move my lifting chain to twist it some. As I took the bolt off the chain an the flat washer I was using slipped an the washer went straight into the motor under the lifters

So it came back out, the pan came off destroying the rear main plate gasket where it was silicone in the corners. Second trip to the parts store an $30 there. All back together, betting it'll leak from somewhere now too.

So it's back in, bolted up an I get to the last converter bolt. Either i messed it up coming out or going back but the threads on it are toast so gotta go get one of those tomorrow. Btw... I hate this thing more now...

No pics because it was hot an I was pretty mad. Injectors are good an are ready for pickup though (another $50 )

Been there done that- when I was redoing the intake gaskets, I’d used the intake bolts and washers to hold them in place while the goop tacked up. Damned if one of then washers go plink down the distributor hole into the pan. That was a fun rescue project.

Got my converter bolt, got it buttoned up. Go to put the lower cover back that is a structural thing like an LS an it won't line up. The oil pan gasket is sticking out where it bolts. Wonder why? Because I bought a gasket for a car which uses a different pan an needs the gasket there. The jeep doesn't use that area. Guess what's coming back out again.

It's a multi-layer gasket. The middle layer is metal and also the windage tray. Its a dumb design imo.

Also no one stocks the correct gasket. Local parts stores all list the one I have, the correct part number per felpro won't even pull up on their system. (Yes I called them all). Dealer doesn't stock it either, why you might ask? because its jeep/durango 6.4l specific So on pause till next weekend when I'm off again an the $135 oil pan gasket comes in

That's pretty wild.

I figure we'll be seeing a lot more 392's out in the wild with the Durango being such a value.

All they had to do was make this piece fit with that style gasket. Why make 2 special parts for a low volume model.

I checked some more an all the cars, a trackhawk or hellcat durango can/do use that style gasket. 392 jeep an durango dont. Seems so dumb to me. The trackhawk didn't come out till 18 an got a completely different oil pan to use the "car" style gasket.
