There was some dateline? 20/20 episode a long time ago about Remington 870s accidentally discharging if you bumped the stock. One of the guys in the interview, his gun had gone off 8nce by accident and put hole in the roof of his truck, he wrote it off as a fluke occurrence. But it happened again at a later date, don't remember if he got shot or his wife got shot, but somebody got sued.
Ive had my 870 since 2003, it has NEVER gone off on its own...

I don't think they all do, and not in all circumstances. I had one myself with zero problems. But Remington has been sued over them. The guy who's went off once before, should have investigated why or at least made sure the gun was unloaded before putting it in the car. Not all small block chevys throw rods, not all Fieros catch fire; all smokers dont die of cancer, all drinkers don't die of liver disease, but it does happen. It never happened to me, doesn't mean it doesn't happen

Shotguns make large holes of all shapes and sizes. This looks like buckshot all day.

Also if I read right the hole was ALSO through the carpet, only reason I say it was a gun.

a silver dollar is about double the diameter of a 12 gauge load.
buck or slug
(with the barrel on the floor, there wouldn't be any spread)

now if the hole is the diameter of a new dollar coin, well that's a lot closer

I don't think a bullet hole a 12ga shotgun is .729 inches in diameter and at the muzzle it's not going to open at all even at 7 yards shot is still going to be the size of a fist.

A 12g 2.75” hollowpoint slug with a max dram equivalent powder load count? Shot an old dryer in a gravel pit. Dryer got flying lessons and had a fist sized exit hole.
Flipped a feral hog over with a Fiocchi 00 buck load from a 19” barreled break open single shot. A coyote hit with the same load will only be fit for “Buzzards gotta eat too”…
Coworker had a negligent discharge in a late model Malibu sedan. Basic boring #4 buck riot load… It killed the car, from inside the car…

I fire a LOT of 12g loads. From powder puff Winchester AA ultra lights at cowboy action shoots, to heavy duty all brass shells loaded with Fffg blackpowder, to max load slugs for creek bottom hogs. Want to scare yourself? Aquila or Federal 1.75” short shells… Full power shell with no shot cup/cushion. I use those in a 118 year old break action… It hurts…
