Just black on everything that’s supposed to be black. Frame and inner fenders.

The wiper motor is full of surface rust and so is the brake booster. So it may be the better part of valor to just paint them. I’m trying to keep the metal lines (brake, fuel, trans lines) bare metal.
I certainly wouldn't blame ya on those two. They're both black originally anyway so no harm no foul. Depending on the level of rustiness, you might look into the Eastwood rust converter, it's black and will stop the rust completely.

I have a can of brush on Eastwood rust encapsulator, probably just use that. It actually self-levels pretty nicely.

Perfect. That stuff's nasty to work with but it does look good when it's done and dried

More scraping and brushing. So far, the evidence is that the Power Wash isn’t as effective as simple green. But not far off. I rediscovered a can of CRC water based engine Pro degreaser. I sprayed that on and let it soak last night. It instantly turned brown, so that may win the competition. Brake Clean will likely be what gets me across the finish line but I have to make sure the wife isn’t home- it really bothers her lungs.
Just a word of caution for those metal brushes. If you have a dog take a magnet over the floor after every use. cost me $300 to have the vet remove one of those wires from her paw. They don't come out easy and you'll be surprise how many of those wire are on the floor.

Coming along- did the core support with Eastwood Rust Encapsulation, and started in on the primer on the frame and crossmember.

Where the black paint will border with the old grease and paint, I’ll just lighten up on the coat and leave it be.

Pretty much have most everything painted that I want to- not taking on any big projects today as I’m on call and have to leave at a moments notice.

I did stop by the machine shop this morning and looks like mine is next in line, maybe today. He gave me the blessing more or less to order the bottom end. But I’m going to wait until it is done, you never know…

A short task I wanted to do was take a look at the oil pump gears. It was a Melling 55HV and the engine (for what it was) didn’t have many revolutions on her. But I did see some evidence of scratches on the teeth. My gut told me to chuck it- an oil pump isn’t the place to save 50 bucks. I will save the shaft though- it’s a heavy duty hardened piece with the metal sleeve that captures the pump drive- the sleeve is held on by a roll pin. Best I can tell is that it’s a Melling unit or possibly ARP and looks fine to reuse.

Getting close on the block, awaiting final word from the machinist- he’s apparently coming in to work on it Sunday because he’s trying to get caught up.

Did some more cleaning today- bolted in the new motor mounts and brackets. Put a fresh coat of paint on the brake booster and the wiper motor.

I just called Northern parts warehouse to see if my parts were in stock. What an awesome experience! It turns out, they don’t buy a pre-balanced kit from the manufacturer, what they do is they take the parts off the shelf, into their machine shop, and they balanced themselves! I feel like I found a diamond in the rough.

I already feel better about how this is going.
