Y'all need to get one of these for sure. As I get older, the more I look for things like this. Had one at the shop I worked at but haven't ever picked one up. Just a foam mat.

This one is a lang, says made in the USA. Like $35 on summit.

Mainly for kneeling on the ground, but it also works great for laying on the core support or over a fender. Quick creeper and you can keep one in your truck pretty easily.

Priceless tool, I had a used one gifted to me several years ago and I use it all the time, saves on the body significantly. I can’t imagine life without it.

I finally got myself a AC Tig machine, Primeweld 225x. I've always had free reign of one at work, but even that means I have to bring my crap, wait until after hours, etc etc.

Will have to build myself a decent cart to get the Mig on also.

My dad bought me a mig from Hobo Freight last year for Xmas and I have yet to buy all the other stuff to get it set up, for that exact reason. I have free access to our Miller at work

Since Sandy is most likely all metric, I looked for metric sets. Very limited. Looked at home depot and lowes. Was going to swing by harbor freight but was fed up after lowes. That was Saturday(yesterday) .

Today, looked online. Tried home depot, lowes, grainger, tractor supply, ebay, dewalt, milwaukee, stanley. Nothing like the simple comprehensive sets like we could get years ago. Decided to try the small hardware store. Same thing, no simple comprehensive sets. So, I compromised and got this metric set. With wrench roll, a spark plug socket, some screwdrivers and pliers, Sandy will have a decent tool kit.

Putting this out there for anyone interested-

Eastwood has some pretty good deals in the close out/clearance section right now. A mix of tools, hardware, paint and body supplies.

Lot of Auveco hardware and some stuff that is applicable to our squares.

Do be warned, some stuff jacks the shipping price way up. There’s 95¢ drain pans that raised shipping $20!

I may not need to get a spark plug socket for Sandy's tool kit.

I need to change the spark plugs on the Jeep, and last night I checked and adjusted the gaps to be 0.035, so it's easier to replace them in the cold foggy weather we are experiencing now.

Out of curiosity I grabbed this set to see if the sockets would fit the spark plug. I did not check with the ratchet inserted into the socket, but the spark plug fit just fine. I had a spark plug socket handy, so I compared that as well. The 16mm fits about the same as the 5/8 spark plug socket, and has about the same amount of slop between socket and fastener, just nothing inside the socket to hold the spark plug. I always remove the rubber from the spark plug socket anyhow, so it's basically that same thing.

The spark plug socket I had handy was one of those magnetic ones. I like that better than the rubber inside the socket and got it when I replaced the spark plugs on my wife's 2.0t Buick Regal..

Size-wise, the conversion is: 5/8"=0.625"=15.875mm. I'll give the 16mm a try and see what happens.

I predict spark plugs coming out and being thread back in just like with a spark plug socket.

You should be fine with a 16mm, .004 (my pink post it note mics out to .0039” thick) larger than 5/8”.

Scored a couple other things at a on line local auction. A fluid evacuation tank which you can use to change oil and other fluids in engines, transmissions and differentials without pulling covers and such. The other item is a gas tank adaptor attached to a transmission jack.

Come tax time, I will list all the excess tools and doubles I bought to get down to just what I need so I am not tripping over all of it.

The 16mm deep socket worked fine for spark plugs. I'll probably get another one of the magnetic sockets just to have in the tool kit.

I had taken advantage of the 40% off icon wrenches sale last Saturday.

My buddy picked this up for me yesterday, a 30x60x1/2” steel plate, this will become my welding/fab/assembly/worktable. Need to source some square tubing 2x2x3/16 is what is ideal, but I found some 3x3x1/4 for a good price pretty local, which would work.

And some welding consumables, new liner for my ancient Miller wire feed and some smaller torch welding tips, a #2 and a #1.

Got this very cool USA made Graham Tool tube beading tool! It rolls a bead on both 1/4” and 5/16” steel or CuNi tubing. From reading, it was designed during WWII and for some reason it is still prohibited from export. You’d figure the rest of the world would have figured it out by now. :D

Planning to fab up new fuel and transmission cooler lines and this thing will be great to have for where I need to transition from tube to hose.

Funny how things work sometimes, yesterday I come home from the shop and was eating my dinner when my buddy sent me a message asking if I wanted a free Bridgeport, the answer of course is yes, who has it, where is it, when can I get it.

His uncle had it and wanted the space, he already has an Alliant knee mill that is more comparable in size to a series two Bridgeport. He had gotten it for free from Emerson Electric as he somehow has the gig there to haul stuff out of there. So we get to his place and I see a Powermatic 143 band saw sitting there hooked to his jib crane, thinking, that must be why he was getting rid of it, he wanted the room for the saw. Look at the mill and he says, you want that stuff too? Pointing at the band saw and the sander, uhh, yes please.

Hauled it back up to the shop and after some subs at Subway got to work unloading.

Got everything unloaded and into the shop, the weather went from 75 degrees at his uncles house to in the 30's with it raining, and kind of miserable.

Need to give it a good clean and evaluation. The mill is a 1978, J head, 1HP, 3ph, step pulley. Has an ancient Sony DRO on it, so old it has thumb digits to set your present and that is the only functions, reset, and preset. No bolt hole circle, no center finding, probably will be looking into going with a new and more capable setup. Has a Bridgeport power feed on it, that kind of works. I think a good clean will go far. Has a minute meter on it, has 52k minutes on it, or maybe some multiple of that.

The 143 is a real sweetheart, wood metal saw, tires original in good shape, has a nice lennox blade mounted, 110v single phase. Even the lamp and bulb work. I removed the table and rear panel for transport.

Sander is a basic but should be useful 6x48 with a 9" (I didn't measure) disc.

I am quite excited. Need to order a VFD for the mill.
