Hey All
1989 chevy Burb 4x4 almost 200,000 Miles running great until today??
Left a stop sign coming to a full stop when leaving and acceratling it stumbled like it was going to stall, keep going and seemed ok, Next Stop the same? as driving seemed ok when pushing the pedal the response was not the same? Keep going and it stalled never did that before? went into our subdivision at 15 MPH stalled! started right up keep driving stalled again! started right up back on the road 35 mph stalled put in in neutral started right up WTF. Quick note I let the fuel tank go to empty did not run out! fueled it up with over 30 GAL. what did i suck in the fuel system, fuel filter was changed about 8,ooo miles ago. Clogged fuel filter? MAP Sensor? Failing Fuel Pump?
Help any suggestions

With those symptoms its probably something in the distributor or like ignition module or pickup coil or ignition coil.

Could still be pickup coil. Also check the wires going to the coolant temperature sensor on intake manifold by thermostat housing (has 2 wires) wiggle the wires while running. Odds are its the pickup coil.

Its inside the distributor and can only be replaced when the distributor is out. It plugs into the icm.

Thought you replaced the filter recently but I guess its been 5 years. Maybe remove it and check filter flow. I hate these intermittent problems that can be multiple things. Have you checked egr valve?

You ran it out of gas,now it doesn't run right. Was this immediate right after running out of gas? If it was immediately or almost immediately. I'd run a fuel pressure test. I'd suspect a pump. The intank pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel. You shouldn't run them under 1/4 tank. FP test on tbi is not fun, there is no Schrader valve you will have to get a special fitting to check fuel pressure, either at the throttle body or at the fuel filter.

Like ricko asked. How long after you ran out of gas? Ive run out of gas a few time's in different rigs. If it were a clogged fuel filter it would likely have more trouble running on startup and get a little better after a few minutes. It could be a fuel pump failing too. Would be nice to be able to test fuel pressure to see if its in spec. And if that seems good maybe run a test light from your fuel pump relay to inside the cab where you can monitor the pump power while on test runs. See If you can rule out fuel as your problem then you can go on to the next.
