Most of the guys who put them in around here have to have footings poured for the posts regardless of the slab thickness. They seem pretty affordable, maybe talk to a supplier and see what they're offering.
Might have to do that. What I vaguely read online most recommend 6"+. Kinda stopped researching at that point. I'm guessing the fella that built this didn't go that thick. Haven't bored a hole to confirm yet. It was his retirement project in the early 80s. Did majority of the work himself, with help from sons and neighbors. Other than the membrane roof.

I came from working out in the driveway or dirt like many, laying on the ground. That was just a few years ago. Fortunate enough to have this space now. Young enough still that it's not a huge burden. But a lift would be a God send.

Depends on the lift, a 10k or 12k pounder needs 6" but a 7k could get away with 4"
Good to know. I was hoping for a 10k. Most anything I own is around 7k less. Just figured if I was going that far I'd get a bigger boy for any heavier miscellaneous projects. I'll have to reach out and see what's needed. Thanks!

Well I’m officially without a shop….gotta get on a permit and get one figured out to toss up this winter at the new place.
Fortunately I have a good friend over there who’s a builder and will have time to get a pole barn up this winter.
I did perty up the floor in the garage at the new house this week though, just in time for the movers to unload next week.
Slab finish was/is probably the worst I’ve ever seen that didn’t get torn out and replaced. The epoxy takes some of the ugly out! Lol

if you zoom in, that’s not an illusion. It’s that bad. And no joints in it so it cracked exactly where it should have but instead of looking like 6 rectangles it looks like a map of a half dozen states with rivers for state lines!

The concrete slab in my "shop" is extremely lumpy and inconsistent. There's even boot prints, lol. It was poured by farmers in the early 70's I'd guess, when that lean-to was enlarged and fully enclosed.

Oddly enough, there's no joints but has very little cracking. I don't remember where any cracks are without going and looking, but there must be some.

Ya but this is a 3 car attached garage on a 3 year old custom home. They spent $100k on Pella windows but the slab finish and lack of jointing is, well, fugly. It’s not even explainable. But based on the timeline for the house construction, I see what/why. Not excusable but the slab was likely poured between late fall and early spring.
They didn’t lose it to heat, they just gave up because it was setting slowly.
Aside from the chitty screeding, bird baths all over the floor and driveway approach. Probably a dozen of them. And the edges inside never got cleaned up. My paint roller was knocking chunks off…. AND no joints.
Good news is the shop won’t look like that. We know how to finish concrete.

I’m glad I have a garage but at the same time it’s useless except the store my bike and kids bikes lol townhouse living is for the birds! My truck won’t fit in it. So when it’s back on the road it will be a visitor parking lifer

Disregard the mess. Trying to pack up all the Christmas decorations and get it over to my storage unit ‍
