I can honestly say I've never heard of mounts allowing the motor to drop that much, but looking at the angle of them in these trucks, you can see how that would happen. I'm used to the 60's and 70's musclecars and they typically broke. When you would hit the gas, the motor would rise up and hit the hood. Dead give away you have a problem.
I pulled the a motor mount, the frame bracket, and the engine bracket from the driver's side tonight. The mounts were in the upper holes and to be honest, they didn't look too bad. I was hoping they would be broken and way off center, but no such luck. The engine brackets, remember someone replaced the motor and tranny in the past, have black, red, and yellow paint on them so I'm hoping they are the wrong ones. They have the number 3349 stamped into them and it looks like a much larger 71 is stamped to the right. Boy I hope they are the wrong part. It would make life simpler for sure.
