Based on the fit of the front bumper I doubt it has any body lift in it. Most likely wrong clamshells and or trans mount. can't compare the pics to mine because I have solid mounts however, they do seem short from what I can tell, from a car maybe at least the engine side.

Choo Choo Customs was/is based out of Chattanooga, hence the "Choo choo". That bolt-on hood scoop likely has some value.

How close is your oil pan to the crossmember? The engine can only get so low.
I can get a finger or two between them, but someone put a chrome oil pan on it so I am a little leery of using that as the determining factor. I can say this, when I look at the way the 87 305 sits as compared to the 84 350, it sets lower. If you know anybody who wants that scoop, let me know.

I think you may be correct. When I get this sorted out, I will post pictures of the parts I removed sitting to the ones that will go into the truck.

Wasted mounts can cause the engine to settle down in 3/4" or more.

Here's the best picture I could get of my only small block 2wd truck. The tires are flat, so couldn't get the best picture.

If you don't find a buyer for that scoop, let me know.

I can't be 100% sure, but those pictures show a much larger space between the pan and center crossmember. In fact, it looks just like the space I have on my 87 K10. Wrong mounts...could be, wrong mounts that are toasted...most likely. As soon as I find out for sure, I will update this thread. I must say I'm impressed with the responses to my dilemma. My last project, a 71 Corvette led me to join a Corvette forum and those members were cut from the same cloth. Plenty of knowledge, experience, and a willingness to share it with novices like me.
Thanks,
Mark

I've got a 77 K5 that the mounts had given out enough that the balancer had rubbed a hole on the crossmember (4x4). It's apples to oranges as far as application, but I'll see if I can get a picture of where the balancer currently sits in relation to the crossmember. To show how much they can sag.

I don't suspect that you have the wrong mounts. There would be no reason for someone to mess with those.

I can honestly say I've never heard of mounts allowing the motor to drop that much, but looking at the angle of them in these trucks, you can see how that would happen. I'm used to the 60's and 70's musclecars and they typically broke. When you would hit the gas, the motor would rise up and hit the hood. Dead give away you have a problem.

I pulled the a motor mount, the frame bracket, and the engine bracket from the driver's side tonight. The mounts were in the upper holes and to be honest, they didn't look too bad. I was hoping they would be broken and way off center, but no such luck. The engine brackets, remember someone replaced the motor and tranny in the past, have black, red, and yellow paint on them so I'm hoping they are the wrong ones. They have the number 3349 stamped into them and it looks like a much larger 71 is stamped to the right. Boy I hope they are the wrong part. It would make life simpler for sure.

There are 2 different height clamshell brackets in the camaros.
Measure the distance of the hole center to the mounting surface. 2 5/8 is used on the camaros but I don't know what height mounts were used in Squarebody trucks.

The ones I have measure 2 7/16 from the center of the hole to the mounting surface.

Good Afternoon and Hello,
This is my first post and I'm a new member so hopefully this will make sense. I just purchased an 84 shortbed that was sold as a Choo Choo Custom. Unfortunately the previous owners blew up the motor, replaced it with another one, and made plenty of "repairs" to it in the past. My goal is to return it to a pretty much stock form and I've already run into the first roadblock. I swear the motor, an 80-85 350 according to the casting number on the back edge, is sitting too low in the frame. I went to install a 7 blade factory fan/clutch assembly where a small flex fan used to be, and it won't fit inside the shroud assembly. The shroud is a typical two piece unit, the same exact one that is on my 87 K10 truck. It fits the rad nicely and bolts right up to the brackets attached to the rad support. The fan blades hit the bottom of it and there must be a good 2.5 inch gap between the top of the blades and the upper inside part of the shroud. I also noticed the power steering pump is really low...most of it is tucked beneath the top of the frame rail and it looks too close to the main crank pulley. Did GM use different motor mounts, engine brackets, or frame brackets for different years or for different motors? Because this thing is just not right. Any advice or pictures of what it should look like would be great.
Thanks,
Mark
The motor towers or perches whatever you wanna call them, the part that goes from the top of the frame to the center crossmember has two sets of holes to mount the clamshell bracket one for a V8 one for in-line six maybe it’s in the lower holes which are ment for the straight 6.

He's in the upper holes you're looking at them upside down.

Hi Eightyduce,
I wish that was the case. The mounts, which were pretty rotten, were bolted in the upper holes. I removed the brackets that bolt to the engine and found a set that was a good 1/2" taller. Between the new mounts and the taller engine brackets, it is sitting plenty high enough for the fan to miss the shroud. One other thing had me thinking it was way too low...2" I thought. the previous owner installed a homemade/cobbled up power steering pump bracket that held the pump way down low. That made things look worse than they were. New mounts, new brackets, and the proper power steering set up has things looking pretty good.
Thanks for the reply,
Mark

UPDATE: I bought two engine brackets while I was at Carlisle and just to be sure, I ordered one from LMC as well. They turned out to be identical. When I bolted them to the engine block and lowered it into place, I could only get one bolt to go through the motor mounts. The other hole was off by a good 3/4". Essentially the holes in the engine brackets are further apart than the holes in the motor mounts. Like I said, someone cobbled this thing together in the past and unraveling things is proving to be a PIA. The only other thing it could possible be, I think..., are mismatched frame brackets. Any thoughts?
