I am trying to replace my 81 idiot light gauge cluster with an earlier set that has proper gauges. But I have NO idea how to set up any of it. I was hoping for a tachometer, but cannot afford one right now. So experts, how do I install the new gauges and get them to work? Also, will a 100 MPH speedo that I put in the truck be accurate like my 85 MPH one was with no modifications?

You will need to move a few pins around. Plus add a temp gauge sending unit and oil pressure gauge sending unit.

I think there's a wiring diagram floating around here somewhere.

And the 100mph hour speedo should be accurate too. To the best of my knowledge, all the speedos run off the same ratio.

I seem to remember that the wiring diagram was for older trucks. I also think I need certain wires and copper tubing that is not on there now. For instance the oil idiot light is connected to a wire, right? My new oil gauge is mechanical and had a copper tubing stump remaining on it. I wish someone had good step-by-step pictures of this conversion.

Even if you can't readily find a wiring diagram, tracing the circuits is very easy.

You didn't tell us it was a mechanical OP gauge. So yes, you would need to run the tubing and get the correct sending unit.

What you have is a '77-older cluster. Does it have a Volts or Amp gauge?

I guess I must find the right wires and connectors then.
