I’ve been forever cursed as a water cooled VW guy. Mostly Mk1’s (76-93) chassis.

My yellow truck I miss it. Luckily it’s still alive and kicking and back in the hands of a friend after a few times of it getting passed around.

1980 Vw rabbit truck
Raised strut towers
Coilovers (modified from a EG Civic with shorter shock body’s)
Control arm mounts raised and brought into the cab.
Zero rear suspension. Floating Axle smacking body constantly

Heron 1.6 8v (for only 115hp it ripped) P/P with mechanical fuel injection.

4 speed trans with the bell housing self machined/cracked/wide open for ground clearance.

Chopped oil pan down to 2.5 QT’s with a machined oil pump/pick up tube.

Ran a massive 6AN set of lines and external oil cooler to make up for the chopped pan.

At the time I lived in manassas Virginia and my buddy uglybastard out in Montana said if you drive out you can have the truck. It had blown its freeze plugs and never had the oil changed due to burning so much oil and having the drain plug welded shut

Me and 2 buddy’s in an extended cab Tacoma made the drive in 36 hours. Got there tossed the truck on the lift and got it running. Snagged what was supposed to be a car dolly and uhaul failed us and gave us a full size trailer. That poor Tacoma hated life lol the drive home took about 42 hours.

With no time to spare got the truck home sorted and the following day drove it to mk1madness in PA. 4 hour drive at 1/4 throttle due to severe rod nock due to the haggard mess the OG motor was

Swapped out the motor and drove it every where for about 15 months.

Always static. No air. It would get wedged on the crown of the road. Multiple times did I have to get out and push it off a lip in the road to keep it going. Totally worthless amazing truck!

Someone offered me way too much money for it at a time when the cash was needed and I let it go. After 2 owners later a buddy of mine picked it up and brought it back to life. Still owns it to this day. My son ask me to buy it back constantly but it’s not for sale lol

I bet there’s some way cooler rides out there people regret selling…let’s see em

The first "car" I bought was a 1949 Jeep CJ-2A was right after high school graduation. Wish I had a pic but I don't. I used the $400 I got for gift money. It was a serious rattle trap but ran good and went almost 55 mph, almost. Anyway, had to sell it at the end of the summer to pay for college expenses, even made a couple hundred in profit. After I flunked out, drove my Dad's 65 3/4 ton Chevy pickup with a mighty 292 and a 4 speed. That is until I wrecked it.

I ended up buying a used '79 CJ-5, 258, 4 speed, bare bones Jeep in 1982. Got some Armstrong Tru-Tracs and better wheels, and drove it for 7 years until having decided to return to college, had to sell it to fund that. Bought a totally beat '65 Chevy Suburban, 283, 4-speed for $300 to get through until graduation. Wish I had a pic of that.

I regret selling the '79, but I am way more happy with my current K20 Suburban. Anyway, here is the '79 CJ-5...

1969 Boss 302. Looked like it as going 100 mph parked in the driveway. Blast to drive!

When I moved to the farm I just didn’t have time for it, or a good place to keep it as there was no shop, no barn at that time. Sure wish I had it now!

No pictures (lost em in a fire several years ago)but I have a few vehicles I wish we'd been able to keep.....
Dad's 75 Sierra Classic C15, it had the smogger 350/QJ but he probably wanted to put a 383 in it. Very 70s in Willoway Green and white, he did some custom stuff to it like chrome padded bumpers, Western (Hurricane?) turbine wheels (the ones with lots of spokes, about an inch between them) that were painted green in the cast areas between the spokes, 74 tailgate trim to remove the GMC emblem, Goodyear GT Radials on those turbines(he worked at a Goodyear dealer and could get a great deal on tires). Had the 40 shades of green deluxe vinyl interior, with the woodgrain on the dash and the scrollwork on the door panel trim.

90 R2500 square body Burb,350 TBI,th400, tough old Burb that needed overdrive. White and light blue metallic, dark blue velour interior with buckets and console in front. Actually was ordered with no third row seat, one of probably a very few Burbs like that. I wrenched on this one a LOT, rebuilt the front end(this is the truck that the right lower ball joint basically exploded in the OTC ball joint press, sounded like a 44 Magnum going off close to your head).

96 Dodge Intrepid, 3.5 overhead cam V6, 215", 215 HP in a 3300# car, that four adults and their gear fit in great, and was quick and handled VERY well. And it looked pretty cool too. Island Teal pearlcoat, like Petty Blue but more turquoise. Mom and I cosigned on it, program car(ex rental), put almost 80K on it in 3 years for our jobs. When Mopar had the recall on these on the fuel rails and injectors and O rings... we'd already done it! Dad ordered the factory shop manuals, did his research, and he and I tackled it. Same with the timing belt/tensioner/water pump, every 100K on these engines. The real Achilles heel on these, though, is a bad design on the engine and front driveline cradle/subframe, that the bushings wear out too quickly. Replaced those, or had them replaced, too many times....I think, this issue, transaxle failure (ours was done at 92K by the dealer, we got another 160K out of the car and it was still okay; most failed around 50-60K), and rust in the northern cars, is why you VERY rarely see these anymore. I can't even remember the last time I saw one in a wrecking yard....
That little car took some abuse though! Dad and I did swap meets with it, when whatever Burb was down, a few pick your part runs, we drove the hell outta it for many years in Houston area, and quite a few road trips too. Mom was coming home from work one night, driving on the freeway which had some construction, and a car in front of her kicked an orange barrel base up onto the hood and knocked the driver's door mirror off. Chrysler engineering, the power window still worked, even though it was hanging by the cable, off the door.... Cracked the corner of the windshield, bent the wiper arms, insurance company totalled it cause it was "just an old car" in around 2010-11; we bought it back, replaced the wiper arms and mirror, drove it another six years. Once you learned the quirks, it was a great car...but that front end was a deal breaker.
And the 78 Sierra shop truck, heavy half that never had the fender decals, that ended up being a badass truck with its 350 and duals....loved to get into the QJ and let those secondaries scream.....

I have a couple. My 3rd car I bought while in college circa ~2007 was a ‘94 Mustang GT with the 5.0/5-speed, was a premium with leather and the Mach460 sound system. It had too big a cam for the stock heads, longtube headers and 3.73 gears. Ran great and looked great, had lots of fun in this one. Sold it to get my first truck.

The next regret was a few years later. Decided I wanted an old truck, found an ‘85 K5 Blazer for $3300 that had a fresh crate 350 and a fresh set of KM2 33s. Drove it through snowmagedden 2014 and sold it in the spring of 2015 for the same $3300 and was sweating whether I’d get my money back. If I’d only known…

Then around 2016 at a family reunion, my dad’s cousin’s husband offered me his 1970 C10 for $1. He got it from a college friend’s parents long ago and it hadn’t even moved in 15yrs or so. I just had to come get it on the NC coast. It was a 6cyl/3 on the tree. Great little truck, I drove it alot.

I got married about a year later, had bought a house and needed to pay bills so I sold it. Thankfully the guy I sold it to is local and is doing it justice. It’s got a hot 355 small block, he kept the 3OTT and put all tubular suspension on it with bigger brakes and 18” wheels.

1991 V3500, former USAF truck, I was the first civilian owner in 2002. Fresh paint and lift with a pretty mint interior. I truly loved this truck but the 4l80e died and then the a/c quit, with a baby and a toddler we needed something absolutely dependable so I sold it.

About 5 years ago I got the itch to get it back, I found it in Tn. Mechanically, the truck was trashed, the dash wiring looks like a tumbleweed hanging out of the instrument cluster area and it was cut down to a short bed. Absolutely heartbreaking.

1954 chevy truck. My dad bought me one for $500. I sold it and bought my 1st square, 1973 k10, big block 396 with a 400 trans. Wish I had kept the 54.

I would have it looking like this now

My first car that I bought in 94 in high school. 71 Impala Coupe. 400 sbc, Th350, chrome vette rallys, 50 series tires.

Went to work at a place working 12 hours a day 7 days a week for months on end and wound up selling it after the divorce. Never got to enjoy driving it any and the paint was ruined from sitting. Pulled the motor and trans for a possible future project....trans wound up in my nephews truck and I sold the 400 back before Thanksgiving this year. Only pics I have are from 2007 Google maps when it was sitting in my parents yard for sale.

'87 Buick Grand National, nice low mile car. Minor mods, ran 12.3's at the strip. Sold it when my Mom fell ill.
'98 Z28 convertible, LS1, 6spd, black, tan interior, chrome wheels. This car used to get 31 mpg running back and forth from Austin to Dallas and ran 13.2's at the strip. Awesome daily driver. Worked out a deal with one of my buddies back east. He still has it, sits in his garage 15 years later.

I don't have pictures, because I wasn't ever much of a picture guy back in the day, but my 2 would be my 89 2wd Suburban, with barn doors, and my 85 K10 Scottsdale on a 4 inch lift with 33's. Both had perfect interiors, but not the best paint. Body's were straight though.

I've had a lot of square body's over the years that I wish I had back, but those would be the main 2.
