what's it worth?

Well through some horse trading, I ended up with a th350 transmission and what I think is an NP 208 transfer case. These are bolted together on a cross member from a 78 k5 blazer. The transfer case is good but the transmission needs to be rebuilt I think. So my question is whats a fair price? I don't need it and in fact I need to get it off my trailer. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Probably about 50 bucks. A trans that needs rebuilt is just a core, and a 208 has very little value. If it's a 203, then it's worth less than that. If you happen to have a 205, you might got sumpin'. So you really kinda need to know what t-case it is.

I agree with bucket, but make sure its really a np208 because ive never seen a th350 behind a np208 in a 78 k5

OK, how do I identify the t case then? Pretty sure its a full time unit, bit I could be wrong. All I know is that it came out of a k5 lol

if its a full time unit, like it does NOT have locking hubs then its a np203 if it came from the factory WITH locking hubs then its a np205... the only way your 78 k5 has a np208 transfer case is if someone took one out of a 80s half ton truck and put it in your blazer

Look on the back of the casing by the oil fill plug. If you scrape some of the grime off, you should find a round badge secured to the casing with a single screw in the center. The top line will indicate the NP model number:

You can not go by hubs or axles etc.... My dad had an 86 with auto hubs. Factory!

And things could have been changed at any time so the only sure way is to ID the case like Jerry said.

NP205 note the 3 bolt idler shaft cover hiding behind the chain. 203 s don't have this cover while 205s do.

Pretty sure its a 203 now, sounds like its worth about $50. I was hoping for $150 lol. Looks like the ID tag is gone so I'm going on the way it looks.

Those were auto hubs, but they are still locking hubs. The full time hubs had drive slugs with a chrome dust cap, no locking in or out at all. The shafts always are spinning.

But I do agree, you cannot tell by the hubs what t-case a truck has. Very very few trucks still have their original hubs.

Couldn't have done it without y'all lol. But its gone now, I've had it since 08, and had it for sale in SC and NC with no interest at all. I needed my trailer Friday so I took it to the junkyard. Weighed 380 pounds and brought $36. Oh well. And for the record, my 78 still has the factory original Spicer manual hubs, still going strong.
