while changing out my blower motor today, I noticed the purple wire first runs to a smaller gauge black wire with some kind of insulated bracket on it. Is it just a bracket? Is there a resistor or something important inside? Or can I get rid of it and just plug the purple wire directly into the motor?

I would put it back I believe it’s supposed to help with the radio to keep the static noise out I think it was mainly for the am radio but someone will either confirm or make corrections to my post, hang tight more help is on the way, I just happened to get my 2 cents worth in first :hands:

Honestly, have never seen that before. Assume straight to the motor would be fine.

My radio doesn’t currently work, so I can’t test that theory, unfortunately.

You are right. Took me a minute to find one. He does not need it. Now a days it's pretty obsolete, unless he still has his original radio. Even then, ditch it.

That motor causes untold havoc with ANY electrical device.

It's a capacitor that suppresses electrical noise to ground. Keep it in.

That for certain years only? None of my trucks ever had one.

Some trucks have brushless motors. Bypass capacitor is not needed there.

Brushless motors (IIRC) don't have the 'vent' tube attached to them.

Learned something new. Thanks man.

With the newer blower motor wouldn't he be okay without it?

As long as it is a brushless type motor it'll be okay without it.

Interesting follow up: I took off the wire, and the blower won’t turn on. As soon as I reinstalled the capacitor wire, it worked fine. I’m not sure why that is, but I guess I’ll be keeping it.
