F'n crack me up! That filter was pulled off of about 95% of the squares as a pos part long ago!! get a longer vacuum hose and eliminate that pos!
Good to know. What problems were guys having with it?

Since you can't bother to give any reasons as to why they were pulled off, and what problems people were experiencing, I'm going to go with the GM engineers on this one, and replace the current part with a new one.

Old guy here, but it seems as these were added on under a recall or factory bulletin in the mid to late 70s on almost all vacuum boosted units. We simply cut the hose and installed these filters, but I can't recall the reasoning.

Now that I know what it's called, I was able to buy one at NAPA for like $8, so I'll just change it out

Oooo sassy! I like it! :throw:

This is some good **** thought, I honestly had no idea what it was, I assumed it to be a filter myself.

Some of the squares I've owned just had a hose, others had the filter on them.

The ones the dogs didn't get ahold of had the filter.

Yeah, it is a filter so another thing to think about for maintenance.

I never liked those filters. I'm not sure why, I just plain don't, lol. I won't remove one just for the sake of removing it, but when I am doing a bunch of work under the hood and re-plumbing everything, I'll leave the filter out.

OK that filter is not a bad thing to have. think of you brake booster as a big vacuum leak. during its operation fresh air enters it from the back side from under the dash. it eventually makes its way through the booster and into your engine. The booster has a cheap crappy foam sponge filter on the inlet however any dust from under the dash that gets past it will enter the engine. the inline filter is there to keep dust out of the engine. I added one to my truck , I would like to keep as much dirt out of my engine as I can.

I know there is one in the Blue Ox and i've got a ton on work, time, and money in that booster.

Wouldn't dream of axing that deal.
It don't bother me, heck i'm glad it's there!

Yeah, it is a filter so another thing to think about for maintenance.

Ya know...you said "replacing periodically" and it got me to wondering if..a fresh and clean one would prove any benefit to...engine vacuum.
Surely that's the original part in my truck.

Very curious to see what's inside - what are the chances it's lasted 43 years and works @ maximum efficiency? o_O
I'm anxious to see what's inside.

Does an old booster filter kill brake boosters AND / OR have a negative effect on vacuum numbers?

How very curious.

Whats up with a before and after reading?
You could do a test see?

OMMFG WHAT IS INSIDE THAT DEAL?

I forward the idea that a clogged up booster filter reduces engine vacuum.

If THAT is true, it would thereby INCREASE blow-by and have a directly negative impact on valve stem seals.
Follow?

Everything that follows behind it has to work.against it. :uhoh2: That would compound quickly.

:Get him!:

I want a new one now.

Thanks Mister B.

Prove the theory!

Maybe test the flow on the old one before you cut it apart.

Remember we like pics. ;)
