What is this part?

My pickup is a 1979 Silverado; but the cab came off of a 1977, I think a Scotsdale.

The guy who was working on my pickup left me several boxes of parts, and I have to figure out what everything is and where it goes on the truck. He threw away lots of parts that are needed.

I found another part that I think looks like it is part of the heat and AC system; it is a vacuum actuator attached to a flap. But I have no idea what it is or where it goes. Below are a couple photos of it.

I needed to figure out where a heat shield went today, and I found a part number stamped on it. That lead to a parts diagram and thus the solution.

Like Edelbrock said if part numbers are stamped on it then your quest just got easier.

You are correct, find the vacuum actuator diagram that pertains to your truck and go from there.

Isn't that the vacuum actuated fresh air inlet in the passenger footwell on AC equipped cabs?

Recirc door actuator. Goes on the heater box inside the cabin

That one goes on the passenger side in the cowl opening under the hood

It closes when the one on the kick panel opens for recirculate and for outside air it opens, and the one on the kicks panel closes

Bear with me here, learning as I go and your comments are really helpful, but would the parts (the actual actuators) be the same for both locations? Just curious.

I’m pretty sure some of them open with vacuum and others clothes with vacuum. You can put a piece of hose on it and just suck air and see which way they go.

I did find a number on that part, 6262685-A.
That photo showing where it bolts onto the cowl helped me a whole a lot. And I found a vacuum hose laying in that place to plug it into.

To answer the question from Sad Sack; I can tell by moving them with my hand, that those two vacuum actuators work very different. Also they are a little different size.

That looks like the reciric door under the wiper call
