At the time these trucks were new, that was a GM over the counter accessory. An outside thermometer

The Buick dealership where I use to work had one of those thermometers in the glass display case, along with an add on Twilight Sentinel kit, keyless entry systems/alarms, and a bunch of other GM accessories. Some of them had been there for years, the boxes were sun faded so badly you could barely read it.

GM use to have some pretty neat stuff people could buy to customize their cars.
