Welding to frame

I had an idea to make my own rocksliders for my k20 because i couldnt find any for pick ups and i like the look and it will double as a step. My design i'm thinking of would have them welded to the frame. Is it okay to weld onto the frame? Will it weaken it or am i okay with this?

Long seam welds can weaken it, may just need like a 2" weld, 2" space, 2" weld, and so on.

The points id be attaching to the frame would be about 2 inches. 3 at most nothing real long.

OK you could burn a seam on that just fine.

Be sure to wet an old towel and put it as a barrier for the gas tank if you'll be welding near it. Also look on the back side of the frame before you start, any wires, brake lines, fuel lines, etc will be exposed to temperatures above 1,000 degrees.

Yeah ill have to watch all that on my pass side. I'll be thinking alot about it and mocking it up before i start.

huh probably is on mine then too. I'll have to look. and i'll take some before after and during pics to give ya'll an idea of what i'm doing.

Be sure to have a well supported design. The sliders will be out from the frame about a foot and a half, that's a lot of leverage to put on a few small points of the frame rail.

Yeah I really like what hes doing with that truck and its kinda where i got the idea but i aint doin nothin nearly as heavy duty.
