Want both gas tank fillers on the same side

I never understood why GM had to design their trucks so we have to inconvenience everybody waiting in line (and impatiently at that) at the gas station while we set the gas pump nozzle in a safe spot, then turn the truck around to fill the tank on the other side, and hope nobody rushes in to grab the pump.
Does anybody have any ideas how to make a system so I can fill both tanks from the left side?

There was a post about a month ago about this. One guy on another forum made it work by welding New bungs on bottom of tanks and it crossed over and both tanks filed at same rate during fill up

Thanks for the reply, it would make it easier to fill both tanks, and only need one fuel gauge.
I know how dangerous it can be to weld gas tanks, so some serious thought and planning will be needed for this.
My only other concern would be if the crossover can be damaged if I am out in the back country 4 wheeling and something hits it.

His ran across the middle cross member under the bed. He was also welding brand new tanks

I wouldn't do it that way on a 4x4. you already mentioned hitting something but what if you were off camber. the tank on the high side will want to fill the tank on the low side, potentially overfilling it. I have thought about this and don't see why you just can't run a new fill to the left side all it would take is some plumbing and adding a fuel door. highdeserranger

I agree, glad you pointed that out, as I do end up on hillsides.
I have been thinking how to do the project, and there isn't much room for it if my memory serves right.
I will do some more research on how my truck is made, and if I can find a safe way to do it, I will post a thread with pix about it.

Yeah well the guy that did it had like 22 inches of lift or something crazy on a crew cab.

Because when these trucks were designed, you could simply pull into the little filling station between two pumps, fill both sides at the same time, then pay for it when you were done. And it didn't cost an arm or leg either, lol. Remember?

my brother set his bosses K30 crew cab up to fill both on same side. he just ran a fill line from passenger side to drivers side and put them side by side under the flatbed. works pretty good and you can still switch back and forth.

I had a friend years ago that had a truck that fed off both tanks at same time. It was a car hauler we just filled them up and it transferred from side to side somehow. I wish I had paid attention to how it worked. I remember filling just one side and gauge would drop to half a tank in about 10 min while it crossed over to other
