Sorry to hear about accidents like that. I'm in process of finishing 4" front lift. Had to remove axle,so started with a set of smaller jack stands off the frame behind motor. Had to put cement blocks and wood blocks with smaller jack stands. Was a little nervous, so sailed to the harbor and bought a pair of 12 ton for piece of mind. Luckily I have a shop to park it in.
Yeah, beefy stands with a wide footprint is where it’s at. I sometimes wish that they’d use some kind of rubber on the stand contact- metal on metal can be slippery.

When I was wrestling with Ralph’s rear spring flip, the stands pitched sideways dumping the truck multiple times. I had a couple old wheels with worn out Super Swampers under each frame rail as catch pads. Used to it here, all work is done in the yard or orchards, be it cars, trucks, implements or tractors. Jack it up, add stands, add inflated old tires on junk wheels just in case. And I -never- use farm jacks as jacks anymore, too many close calls. 12 ton bottle jacks and 12 ton jackstands.
