@HotRodPC and others may be able to help with this. This issue is in my '98 K1500 with 350 and I'm assuming 4L60E transmission

So 90% of the time the transmission in my '98 shifts smooth and all is wonderful. However, there is the rare occasion (that I've yet to be able to recreate at will) where for some reason is starts to have very firm shifts and I'm not sure why. During this time, if I pull away from a stoplight or stop sign aggressively it likes that and shifts great but if I drive normal it's like I have a shift kit or something and the shifts are very firm and very noticeable. Any ideas as to why this would happen and why it's so sporadic?

Usually a hung valve can cause this. It could be other things IF it were a constant problem. And if it's a constant problem, it's a sign the trans is on it's way out. Being rare and sporadic, I wouldn't worry to much about it. This could even be a sticky solenoid and it's now fine and will be til the next time it does it. You've serviced the trans with new fluid and filter recently right? If so, I wouldn't worry about it until it's more consistent. A small sliver can hang a valve in the valvebody, but once it's pushed through and out of the way, then problem fixed itself. Now if it happens more often, maybe time for some cleaner fluid and filter.

According to the receipts I have from the previous owner the trans was rebuilt 2 years ago this spring so I would guess that's the last time it's had new fluid. I also cannot vouch for the work done by the shop as I don't know them.

How often does this happen?

Not very often. For instance, it happened today as I ran an errand over lunch which is what reminded me to post up about it. I stopped and got gas and when I restarted it the issue was gone. The last time it had happened before that was probably a month ago or so. So I'd say once every 4 to 6 weeks and I drive the truck probably 300-400 miles per week.

Ouch 2 years without a fluid change after a rebuild :whymewhyme:

I bought the truck a year after the rebuild happened so it's possible that the fluid was flushed again during that year but I have no way of knowing that  The previous owner(s) appear to have taken pretty decent care of the truck overall so it wouldn't surprise me if they did but like I said that's something I cannot confirm.

I think it's a short between the steering wheel and the gas pedal

Yeah, might want to tighten the loose nut behind the steering wheel.
