transfer case out and ready

Well i am in the process of changing out my transmission. So last night i dropped my transfer case and all and will be putting it back in because it worked great. But my buddy i bought the 1986 chevy truck 4x4 v8 from went mudding with this thing alot and on top of that he never cleaned the truck when he did the mudding so this thing is just caked in GA clay. So i will be cleaning the hell out of the transfer case and then coating it in non rust paint to help for the future. But is there anything else I should do with it before i put it back up? If so please explain with detail I am the type of guys who cant take directions without messing up thanks all! O and the tranfers case is off a 700 r4 transmission.

Not really, maybe change the fluid, and change the u-joints. Otherwise ROCK ON!!

Change the seals, especially the one between the T-case and the transmixer.
Unless they have already been changed.
