This was discussed on an old thread of mine, figured I would revist the topic as its been several years.

My 454 was serpentine swapped by the previous owner with home made brackets. This is a major headache. AC comp is crooked and ive got giant runs with no belt tensioner. Something is squeaking.

I'm looking for bracket options that will keep this relative layout. But with the cobbled nature of this rig I'm not sure what I would have to keep / replace accessory or pully wise. I'm fine with stock bracket options.
Not really trying to spend the $$$$ for wild aluminum hardware. Kwik has an adapter kit for $240 (still seems expensive) that is supposed to allow for early 90s full-size truck brackets. Anybody ever try this option successfully? Would seem like a fairly cost effective route with what I imagine is good parts availability. Will I need all new accessories? I have an aftermarket AC comp and I have hydro boost. Current PS pump is from a 6.2 diesel. I would assume there is a 90s vintage pump that would run my hydroboost, right?

My 1989 Suburban with 454 was factory configured with a single serpentine, so getting the bracketry from a similar truck should let you to retain the serpentine system but in a properly designed configuration with a tensioner. The factory brackets place the accessories pretty similar to your pictures - everything on the driver side is the same, the tensioner goes between the AC compressor and alternator, and on the passenger side the compressor is on top with a smog pump underneath. You should be able to use the factory brackets and just a shorter belt since you don't have a smog pump. You shouldn't have to change your PS pump since its already in the right place.

I don't know what you have for salvage yards in your area, but if you can find a big block Suburban or crew cab in your area from around 1988 to 1990 you might find everything you need even if the engine is gone.

I'm just outside of Kansas City. We have plenty of yards but they get picked through pretty quick. Last several trips there have been zero older trucks. Will the OBS vintage 454 stuff bolt right on to a mid 70s motor?

I don’t know about the a/c compressor fitment but Kwik Performance makes adapter plates to use SBC serpentine brackets on a BBC. Everything ends up nice and tight and your existing alternator and put/s pump should bolt right on.

I assume the accessory drives @YakkoWarner is talking about are the same ones from the GMT400 trucks which are plentiful in the salvage yards in my area.

GMT400 BB accessory drive will keep your components in the same basic configuration but you would probably need to source a radial AC compressor, you could probably just take the compressor of the same truck as the accessory drive brackets.

Your upper radiator hose looks like it would work with the GMT400 stuff too, it already has a goofy bend in it that looks like it is supposed to go around the alternator.

This would be a good opportunity to clean up all of the galvanized steel house plumbing fittings and valves from your heater hoses too.

I thought maybe Vintage Air would have an adapter to convert the GMT400 to a Sanden compressor like you already have but couldn't find anything.

Lol I have a bunch of stainless fittings to replace all of the brass ball valves and black iron pipe stuff. Most of it is plumbing for the rear heater.

Seems like in every case I've seen where belt-driven accessories were relocated (usually AC retrofits), NOBODY ever does the required machining to make sure everything lines up properly. Usually it's just shortening/lengthening bolts and/or spacer bushings. But they don't do it. So belts squeal and get thrown, unnecessarily.

Like, how hard can it be, y'know? Just some attention to detail.
