Tailgate Panel Band

I would like to know if a 81-87 Chevy Blazer tailgate band will fit a 81-87 Chevy C10 if I smooth the tailgate handle and move it inside, has anyone ever tried this

You have to carefully transfer the mounts on the back of the panel, then it will bolt on.

Do you have to cut anything

I am pretty sure the only difference between the fill pieces is that the pickups have that dip in the middle to allow access to the tailgate pull:

It might be easier to modify the Jimmy band (cut out that dip) rather than relocate the tailgate pull handle. The aluminum used for the trim is wicked easy to cut. The only problem would be duplicating the quarter round inward relief - because of the corners.
