I even have a 2" body lift (home made) on my 74 bronco , (semi rock crawler)and it's been through the ruby and the sierra track a bunch of times without any issue's
I just needed a touch more lift to keep the swamper's from eating my fender's and I did'nt want to raise my center of gravity much more , (wanted to keep motor , trans , and frame wieght as low as possible).
Worked out perfect.

I think a lot of it depends on the "footprint" of the bodylift bushings. The smaller diameter would add more mechanical advantage than a larger diameter (like a hockey puck) and would be more likely to cause problems. The aesthetic part of it, bumper gaps, gas tank relocate, those are things that can be overcome and not really affect the safety of the vehicle.
