Okay guys. which do you think is the best unit, a: Eaton Tru Trac or b: Yukon Dura-Grip, or are they about equal? I've decided to change my original 2.73 to a 3.73 behind my 700r4 tranny and stock 305.

I've never had a Dura-Grip, but my vote is for the Eaton Tru Trac.

I've had one for years in the front of my K20. Works perfect. Don't know it is there (no clunking, weird noises, etc). It just does the job silently. I liked it so much a friend of mine put one in the back of his 2001 Silverado. He has had no issues. There are no clutches to wear out. You don't need to add any sort of friction additive. There is no reason to rebuild them like the Dura Grip.

@Catbox had one explode on him after a few years in his grocery getter suburban. I have over 200k miles on my factory "clutch" style G80 in my 2011 Suburban. I just recently re-geared and rebuilt the axle and when I had it all apart, there was almost no wear on it at all. I checked the clearances and it was all in-spec.. so I threw it all back together and it will probably go another 200k.

I have blown up two of the stock Gov-Bombs in my 1995 1/2 ton Suburban.
The first was the stock one and the second was a gamble unit I pulled from the junkyard as I was low on the money tree at the time.

After the second one went boom, I had the cash in hand and put a Detroit TrueTrac in the rear.
All was good and it worked flawlessly.
We did have an aluminum wheel work its way off while we were going down the road at 35mph.
The Sub wobbled and shook and then set down on the drum and we came to a stop.

It was here that I later suspected we bent the axle tube on the rearend.

Some time later while in a parking lot, I felt the rear do the ever painful load up and pop as I turned.
I limped it home a couple miles and then found a shop to do the work.

He found the axle to be bent slightly and fixed it back up to be totally straight.
Since these units are not supposed to ever break, you cannot get new parts for them when they do need them.
So into the recycle bin it went.

I now have a Yukon Duragrip in the rear and it works like a champ as well.

The Yukon does not lock the rear wheels at slow speeds like the Detroit did, so no more tire scrubbing at slow speed like I have a spool in the rear.

They both work great.
But the fact that if I have a failure on the Yukon, I can rebuild it was what sold me on using it over another Detroit.

Yukon Dura-Grip best buy for quality at a decent price! i think Eaton is the best over all! :)
