Built my first 880 block. Took me awhile to pick a camshaft for my 1984 k2500. The Truck:
84' k2500 Camper Special
sm465/NP208
10 bolt front /14 bolt rear 4.10 gears
235/85R16 steelies
Ramhorn manifolds 2.5 true dual exhaust with 17749 dynomax turbo mufflers 2.25 tailpipes
The 355 build:
880 block bored 30 over
stock pistons/ stock c.r 9.2:1
Stock Vortec heads(vavle job, fresh springs/seals) used stock vortec rocker arms
Melling LS lifters
Speedmaster low rise vortec intake manifold/ with smoothie 2.5 ramhorn exhaust manifolds
Rebuilt Quadrajet RA-4MV (lucky enough to have a good core on the shelf to build)
80's acdelco distributor with GM GENUINE 19432310 melonized gear
Coyles C3092 Timing set (When I got it I was shocked to see GM Performance on the cam gear)
Big Block 5.5 inch air filter assembly hooked to the cold air intake
Stock everything else., Stock fan with HD fan clutch
Note on the fuel set up:
880 block has no mechanical fuel pump provision. Machine shop couldn't drill the block for me cause my block had no locator hole. My solution was an Carter P4070 electric pump mount on the bottom side of the frame rail by the passenger tank(only using passenger tank at the moment). My truck was diesel swapped before this, so I have a new 6.2 diesel sending unit which has the return line to the tank right up against the pickup sock which is a nice set up. I spliced an t fitting in the line at the carburetor and made an 1/8" orifice insert inside the 5/16 return line back to tank to relieve pressure. Without the added return line, the carb would starve cause over 10 minutes of running the electric pump dead heading to the float in the carb would shut the seat. Once I relieved the pressure problem solved. My quadrajet float is a brass float and is in spec but that electric pump was a learning curve. With the diesel sending unit, I can get down to 1/8 tank and the electric pump picks up fuel fine due to the return style on the diesel sending unit. Was going to do an 1987 efi tank, new sending unit, and use a 1977 vega intank sump pump rated at 2-5psi, but that's pricey compared to my current set up. Most likely will go this route when I get tired of hearing that hum from the external electric pump.
I ended picking the Summit 8800 cam.

I got this cam on a summit ebay warehouse sale $240 shipped the door. Was going go with an similar cam from melling, but I saved an 100 bucks with going with summit. Summit cam is billet and made in USA so no complaints there.
Drove the truck roughly 1000 miles so far, so engine is still young. Oil pump is strong! Takes me awhile to drive at low speeds to keep my oil pressure down before I go on the freeway. At temp Idle oil pressure is 35 psi, driving down the freeway @ 65 mph (roughly 2800 rpm) is 60 psi! Next oil change I'm going to switch to 5w-30, currently running 10w-30. I would recommend this cam to anyone who is doing an rebuild on a 350 who wants to go roller. I would have to say it's the best cam for the money. Didn't have to go crazy with valve springs or anything. Straight drop in cam. Runs like a stock cam with a little bit more go off the line. For an everyday 3/4 ton or 1 ton sbc 350 truck, this cam is perfect! Last trip to the desert I got 13 mpg @ 65mph cruise.
