On a small block 350 does the oil filter adapter require a gasket?

Looks to be the piece that the oil filter itself screws on to. If that is what that piece is than no it doesn't. The O-ring on the oil filter provides the seal.

The adapters never came with a gasket from the factory.

I just put a new one of those on my new to me 454. It came out of an RV so it had a funky remote oil filter setup. I did not use a gasket. No leaks as of yet. As stated before, the filter o-ring provides the seal to the outside world. The only thing a gasket on that adapter would do is ensure absolutely no oil bypasses the filter. It would be such a small amount its not really a big deal. It should be fine without.

The adapter don't leak against the block and a gasket is worthless it does not ensure all oil goes through the filter, the BIG leak is the funky bypass in the adapter which GM put there for cold starts and people that won't change oil, on cold starts especially with a heavy weight oil half of it is bypassed and don't go through the filter until the oil warms up and thins out, put a pipe plug in and all oil will go through the filter, you really notice it too from the high oil pressure when cold.

Thanks guys. Did more research and came to the conclusion there was no gasket needed unless you were using the one for a remote oil cooler or filter.

All the remote units I've ever used had o-rings and no gaskets.
