Stock 400 small bock with bigger cam

No, I had the shop at nearly 70. If the temp is lower than 28 or so, my heater can t keep the shop warm enough for me.

Today, it’s supposed to hit 40 outside though.

So. Have banged up elbow. Doing what I can to avoid surgery. Which means avoiding the shop. That said, I finally got back there last week. Got it buttoned up and it ran great until about 20min in, smoke began to show up out of the drivers side exhaust. The longer I ran it, the worse it got. I shut it off. It’d run clear for a min and then incrementally, more smoke. Blueish.

I’m guessing the intake is warped?

This week…

First thing I'd be looking at is did you get all the right bolts in all the right holes? Did you glue the manifold gasket in place? Did you verify you got the correct intake manifold gaskets,they aren't all the same.My guess is you sucked a manifold gasket on the bottom. Block all valve cover openings with duct tape,including pcv opening,oil filler,vent tube or breather.. Put a vacuum gauge on the dipstick tube and start the engine,if you show vacuum the intake is drawing from the bottom side.

Got the new EPS intake installed, resolved all of my vacuum leaks. However, still throws more blueish smoke than I’d prefer, still on the drivers side.

I relocated the pcv to the passenger side rear valve cover/breather port. I used paper towels to plug the hole on the drivers side valve cover. Still blue smoke.

Moved the pcv vacuum source to manifold vacuum from ported vacuum. Still blue smoke.

Nothing crazy, but noticeable.

Then again, it’s a79 400sbc.

I’m resigning to the notion that even though this engine was re-ringed recently, I think there was an intake leak from that job that kept the rings from seating properly.

Time to look into the leak down vs compression test to help me determine if it’s the valves, which I doubt, or those rings. Ov course I’ll pull the plugs on Wednesday an get some pics.

I will say that it does run noticeably better since I made the changes above.
