Steering Geometry Question

Even a little bit of firewall surgery would be less complicated than re-engineering the steering geometry.


Looks like this is gonna be winner after looking at this thing some more. I got dimensions for the oil pan I will be using (a modified 4x4 3.5L pan) and it turns out that its never going to fit next to the diff anyways. The whole driveline is gonna have to go backwards and maybe up 2 or 3 inches which will clear up the problem

@bucket is right, the idler and pitman arms must be exactly parallel with each other all the way through the arc of the steering or it'll bind. The remote filter setup and a little massaging to the idler bracket will be the ticket.

You boys, @bucket and @TotalyHucked aren't living in the real world. So many of the idler arms installed on many different rigs were mounted in slotted holes, that is there was up and down movement where it attached. There IS some leeway......I wasn't talking about inches and I DID say to keep the plane equal from side to side. You're NOT changing the swing , just where it swings from. Also NOT ALL idler arms were exact in measurements or any replacement part for that matter, right? Doesn't seem to make any difference now anyway, Vince has got it figured out, SO????..........GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!! I'll add, I am NOT a newbee when it comes to front suspension

It's the inboard/outboard part of the relocation that I was trying to emphasize. But I will say this... if you say it will be fine, then I'm inclined to believe it.

Just a side note on this topic...
In the old days all circle track guys used Ackerman Steering.
We changed the length of the idler arm to get the right front tire to turn just a few more degrees than the left.
It would make the car turn way better to the left... :)

This steering situation has got to be one of the more confusing and controversial topics on this forum , has to be up there with "vortex" heads and heat crossovers

You're not wrong, there is leeway. But most people don't understand the minute intricacies of steering. I've done lots of steering and suspension work on many different types of race cars. For his purpose and what he was wanting to do, I saw more issues arising than being solved, so I just kept it simple
