So yesterday I went to start my truck and the key turned to the start position but wouldn't even try to start. I turned the key back but it wouldn't go into lock. I've already tried a new lock cylinder but it did the same thing so im thinking the issue is inside the steering column somewhere. The male end the goes into the back of the lock cylinder is moving with pliers but still won't start it. Anyone have an idea of whats wrong or would I be better of just getting a junkyard steering column?

Does the truck have any electrical power at all? Do the gauges and dash lights come on when the key is turned to on?

I'd drop the column and check the ignition switch. It's on the top of the column about 18-24 inches down, and is actuated via a metal rod. Don't forget to loosen the column clamp on the firewall. If it's not the switch, it's a mechanism at the top of the column that pushes and pulls the rod.

Good luck finding a used one that doesn't need rebuilding. You'd be better off having yours rebuilt by a local column shop or Wayne at GM Tilt Columns. http://www.gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com/aboutus.html
