Shifting a 700r4

I have a tranny that is just about done at my mechanic, and when i test drove the truck, i had in (D)4th gear on the street, it shifted really fast into fourth, but if i put it in 3rd gear and drive around street it does just fine, downshifts and everything. My question is : Do i need to drive around in third and then bump it up to 4(overdrive) when i am at a decent speed, like on the freeway.?? 3:73 gears+700r4 make a very short first gear but snappy.

It's all up to you. If you like driving in 3rd at lower speeds, then have at it
