My '91 S-10 had the 4.3 with the NV3500 5 speed in it. It's the same tranny used in the half-ton full sized trucks. I think '91 was actually the first year for it. Mine also had 3.08 rear end.

It's kinda semi-off-topic, but any of you guys know if the rear axle from an early 90's S10 will fit an '85 Monte SS??

Not without modifying it.

S10 = leaf springs
MC = coil springs

They may be different widths too, I haven't looked at them closely enough.

The ring and pinion may be the same though...

Why am I wanting to say the S-10 has a 7.5 ring gear and the Monte SS has an 8.5? So the r & p are not interchangeable either. Maybe with a carrier swap? Will it fit the same housing??? :shrug: I'd have to look it up cuz I don't know off the top of my head.

If that rear end in the 85 MC SS is the rear end I'm thinking it is, its a rare rear end. I'm thinking the Grand National, Hurst Olds 442 and MC SS got the bigger stronger rear end. That doesn't mean other rear ends won't fit though. Should be a rear end out of any of the same years body Type, like Olds Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix or Bonneville, Buick Regal, Monte Carlo of course. I'm sure there is others too.

OK, maybe MC SS didn't, but I know the Hurst 442 Olds got the 8.5 too OEM. I thought I was told by someone on here that the MC SS got it too. But the Hurst 442 Olds and GN got it for sure.


***EDIT*** NO it was not here I was told that. I remember now, El Co site, a guy said the MC SS got it too, and I doubted it.
