Hey guys, I think I've done an intro but maybe not so here goes.
I am a retired Army CW4 and have had a few Chevy/GMC trucks. I do all my own work on them and love the comradery we have being in the family. Currently have a 72 C-10 I've had for 28 years that is almost done.
I also recently picked up this 1987 GMC Jimmy that's in my profile pick. A serious basket case when I got it a year ago. (No door, rats nests/poop, broken glass, been sitting for years).
So, my question is about some RPO codes I can't find. I have looked at this site for info; I have also looked at the "GM Master RPO code list" and GMrpocodes.com.
I cannot find codes 23D and 29K. They are not on any of the lists I can find.
Anybody got some info?

That's strange, I don't think I've seen that style SPID without descriptions beside the codes

I think it's odd too. There's been at least one other member here that has posted the same type SPID, with no descriptions.

seems like the print ribbon for that section was out of ink that day.

as for the codes:
as the codes next to them on the lists that I can find are blue interior and blue exterior,...I would think they are more of the same,...like a 29K is whatever they call that dark blue paint,

with a 23D as blue interior. (possibly a trim package or stitching on the seats, although I see some 23s denoting steering wheels,...and other things on the interior,...
although probably not optional "blue rats nest condo, with light blue rats nest sh;tter")

and the other thought I had just now, as for the unlisted / hard to find RPO #s.
a special order. a late model, or a early model, ....

but maybe someone else will pop up with better.

maybe:

this was my original posted thread, my post # 15 has the contact links to the GM corp heritage people, ...who does respond to that email
(maybe they print some new stuff for $$$)

They were morphing to the newer style SPID (with just the RPOs, no description).

That Jimmy was built in Flint, Line 2. Funny thing is my 87 pick up was built on Flint Line 1. It shows the RPOs and noun name descriptions.

Same plant, same model year, different SPID formats.

29U Midnight Blue is the exterior paint code (where "U" is "upper", or primary). ZY1 is single color paint scheme.

The 29D and 29K reference the blue interior.

The Heritage Center archive doesn't have a generic info packet for '87 Blazer (which is weird) so I don't know if it is better to look at '86 Blazer or '87 Suburban as a reference. 86 Blazer is attached.

RPO codes can get reused so it's important to look at contemporaneous literature as a reference. Using the master list or RPO.com can sometimes lead you astray.

Those oddball RPOs pop up sometimes—usually internal plant or supplier codes, not always on the public lists. 23D and 29K are likely trim/production-related rather than anything major option-wise.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the info and I am leaning towards the whole "blue rats nest condo" option, LOL!

There are "Merchandised Options" and "Non-Merchandised Options".

Merchandised options are the ones that you and your dealer know about, and appear on his order worksheet, so that you can pick them.

So you might say "I want an automatic". That would be either an overdrive (MXO merchandised option) or not an overdrive (MX1 merchandised option). The engineering chart would then decide which of those you get, and then go down one more level to M40 or M38 for the non-OD, or 700R4 or 6L80E or whatever for the overdrive, depending on the other vehicle content you have chosen.

Similarly - you might say "I want a stick shift".

"Three speed or four speed?" he would ask.

For three speed: merchandised option is MM3, and the engineering charts dictate non-merchandised M62 or M64 depending on the first gear ratio specified for your combination.

For four speed: merchandised option MM4. You would then have to tell him if you want the creeper gear (M20) or the overdrive (MY6).

Probably the best example, and the one most folks are familiar with, is brakes. You chose manual or power brakes (J50) and then the model and GVW define whether you get the JB5, JB6, JB7, JB8 system (which is what everybody really wants to know) or even vacuum vs hydroboost (JD5/6/7/8). You don't get to pick one vs the other, once you've decided your model type and GVW.
