But sounds like maybe the timing chain is rubbing on the cover? Not sure yet they were going to have a mechanic look at it.

This might be my "fix" i love my square, but i don't know of i really want to put the same kind of money into it that it would cost me to get into that 3/4ton....

I would definitely buy that truck, if I needed a cheap truck for working purposes. The TBI GMT's are the most reliable thing's on the road.

would make a good LS swap candidate too! my truck isn't my daily, i only drive it a maybe 2 days/week to help keep the miles down on my Subaru, which is still driven 25k/yr. truck about 7k/yr. also hauling crap, no towing yet but i think i could tow with the 2500

for my purposes that 3/4t would meet my needs. I am still looking out for a good squarebody burb though!

I have a GMT just to haul thing's to the dump, pick up parts, run to Home Depot. It was cheap to buy, is cheap to fix, and cheap to keep running lol.

right, i have dumped a lot of money recently into my square just to keep it running. i will never be able to sell it for the amount of money i have sunk into it. but in the short term I will still probably sell it because I don't need 2 trucks and 1 just sitting there rusting away even though it isn't being driven. i have seen what has happened to my neighbors over the last 4 years and it isn't pretty. they are pretty much scrap now

That's what is likely to happen to my GMT lol. It rarely moves, I have no love for it myself, but someday, someone will curse me for it lol.

KBB values that truck at 3100, so i think if i could talk them down to about 2500 i would be doing pretty well. the motor noise will probably help. really hoping it is just the timing chain or some accessory bearing, but it really sounds like a chain dragging over metal.

probably the same where you are, but it is the humidity in the air. it is so freaking humid here it just rots things if there is a weak spot. if vehicles are kept up and rust is prevented then no issues, but if there is a spot in a few years it is like cancer :doublepuke:

I would definitely be in at 2500. It's typical very humid here also, because of the lakes. Thing's will slowly sink right into the ground lol.

Shouldn't a 3/4t have 8 lug axles? Looking at the pics they are only 6, but the doors say 2500....

edit: ok, it must be a 7200lb 3/4t, so 6 lug axles (should be a 14bolt SF?) no idea on what tranny or transfer case. 4l80 would be awesome...

Ok first of all, You might be able to replace just the pistons without removing the engine if you can get the oil pan off and the connecting rod out. Usually pretty tough to get the room.

Second, stay far away from the 290hp 350 crate engine. It is way over priced and the only difference than the 260hp engine is the camshaft which is really too much for the engine.

The 1986 C10 engine did not have a roller cam. Trucks did not get a roller cam until 1996 with the vortec. Starting in 1987 the trucks used a OEM roller block for the TBI engines but used flat tappet camshafts. Only the vettes and camaros got a roller cam.

Doesn't matter. all the cylinders are scored fairly bad. Not putting another dime into this engine.

I think i am just going to go buy that 1994 k2500 and list my square for sale. I love the square, but the 94 is in so much better shape than my 86 k1500. I have dumped way too much money in this truck, at the rate i am going i will have 8-10k total if i were to finish it and still have a half assed body.

Someday i will buy another square, probably a 2wd to just cruise in.

Trans will be the 4l60E, Tcase will be the NV241. It's basically a half ton with a 14b rear. Which is SF.
