80s hinges also need gaskets https://newboyzsquarebodyrescue.com/products/hood-hinge-gasket-set-1981-1991

do you mean the ones with the gas struts? i dont know if 81+ hinges can be used on a 73-80 , because the hood and cowl geometry and probably locations on the hood itself
From what i can tell 81+ use a simple hinge with a coil that assists opening that is separate so its less susceptible to the side-to-side wear on the pivots of the old hinges

My 75 when I got it came with preneglected hinges and a prebent hood. I took the springs off and straightened the kink. Now I use no springs and a prop rod. The newer style hinge would make it easier, but not as much tension as factory springs,I'd still need a prop rod but lifting it would be easier. Gas struts if they were strong enough to hold the hood up would still be strong enough to bend the already weakened hood. I might try later hinges, probably not, because that would require more effort, than just manhandling the hood like I do now.

The 81-91 hood is a bit lighter than the 73-80 one though....

did you reinfroce the hood? I changed mine out when it kinked because it kinked pretty badly to pinch the fold pretty well, so on new hinges just up and down it would fold and buckle even straightened , maybe you didnt do it so badly?

If anyone ever compares a '73-'80 truck right next to an '81-up with the hoods open... it would take very complicated surgery to the hood and firewall. That juice ain't worth the squeeze. Even if someone else was squeezing the fruit for you.

This. It could be done but it'd take a huge amount of work

OBVIOUSLY, we need to form a GoFundMe page to gather funds to mount protests. May have to combine that protest with ones against Fords, or, maybe, 1986 Buicks, just to be on the safe side.
