Another way would be to swap in a later rear end already equipped with disc brakes.. probably have to change perches etc...

14BFF are notorious for leaks. My 14b leaked and there are repair sleeves available for them if you have a worn tube.

Additionally, there are 1-2 kits for 14BFF that use an entirely different type of seal.
I upgraded to the 2 piece style seal. No leaks so far.

On the subject of the 2pc/unitized wheel seals for a 14 bolt full floater, the ORD seals are just the stock ones used on newer (well still ~20yo trucks) with 10.5-11.5 axles.

A part number for them is :
SKF 28635
Cross reference to the brand of your desire.

Or if you are at the parts store, tell them a 2005 Silverado 2500, 10.5 axle.

I might do the swap as I'd also like to change gear ratio in the rear diff. I could pull a fat kid off a smartie but the fuel usage is crazy...

'85 Suburban C20, 14 bolt semi-float rear end. I did the swap from drum to disc and there's a noticable difference in stopping power. The truck stops like a modern vehicle now. I bought parts from Lugnut 4x4, which made things easier than sourcing all the parts. From my perspective, second best upgrades I've done. 1st best was swapping a TH400 transmission with a 4L80E.

Just got done upgrading to the 13 inch brakes on my 14 I like them a lot but let me tell you those hubs are heavy. 13 inch Brakes are much better than the 11s I had on there. It cost me 225 bucks to rebuild the entire brake system, including everything new except the backing plates.

Yes. And those are the narrow 13 inch drums. I have the 3 inch wide drums that came on the CUCV and they weigh 50+ pounds each. The entire aXLe weighs right at 500. That's my only complaint.
