Question about 81-87 rear bumper brackets

Why is the driver side outside bracket (part #20) so much different than the passenger side bracket (part # 21)?

I want to replace the massive old step bumper on my 82 fleetside, so any suggestions are welcome.

I think it's just the viewing angle in the LMC pic.

Do you have a factory step bumper?

The parts look like the are mirror images, except for the bolt holes for the frame at the back of the bracket. They are off-set, not vertical, to match the holes in the rear of the frame. Also on the bumper end of the outer brackets (square bolt holes), they are designed to contour with the bumper profile.

No, it's aftermarket.
