Hello,

I was rebuilding my engine in the truck was always told it was a 400 so I bought everything for that engine. However after installing most items and cleaning the block up I realized it was actually a 350. I know the 400 was externally balanced and 350 internally. Will this cause any issues??

Thank you in advance.

how did you manage to disassemble, rebuild, and install parts before realizing you had a completely different engine? Are you sure that you have a 350 instead of a 400? What originally made you think you had a 400 and now think it’s a 350?

you should be able to reference the old parts you took off to see if the new parts look the same. If you use a 400 flex plate and balancer on a 350, you are going to have a bad day.

Well I didn't take the whole engine apart it was still in the truck. The truck was given to me by my late grandfather who told me it was a 400. When I was told it was a 4 bolt main after changing the oil pan gasket I had to make sure it was a 400. When I finally had a chance, I checked the block casting number and it turned out to be a 4 bolt main 350. The bad thing is I had a family member help me swap some parts when I was out so I wasn't able to reference some parts. I might still have the Balancer however.

I mainly did a cam swap. So cam, value guides, springs, had a bad balancers that spun so that, and the flexplate had worn teeth, then other basic consumables. Everything else is essentially still 350 parts.

Ah, ok. Then yeah, the balancer and flex plate need swapped for the 350 units.
