I bought and installed a rebuilt 700R4 automatic transmission into my ‘83 K5 4WD and a new GM crate SP350 and am in the process of trying to start the engine for the first time for break in purposes. When I pushed the truck out of the garage to attempt a test start of the engine, I noticed that I forgot to shift it into neutral to push it out. Thinking the shift linkage wasn’t adjusted properly, I disconnected the shift linkage and found that the truck would roll (engine off) in any gear as I turned the gear selector shaft at the transmission. As a side note, the engine will turn over with key on in any gear but won’t start and I think I have isolated the no start to the HEI ignition coil which I’m currently replacing. What would cause the truck to roll in any gear? I’d appreciate your input! Thanks!
