I have spent a lot of time explaining to people how to identify parts so I thought this would be a good thread to start.
it is easy for me to identify them just at a glance but a lot of people don't know a dana 60 from a 10 bolt.

I will start with a dana 60 front axle
they came in all 73 to 87 1 ton 4x4 trucks(crew cabs till 1991)
they have king pins not ball joints look for a 4 bolt cover on top of the steering knuckle.
the pass side uses 1 u bolt and 2 studs to mount to the spring plate
they have the same dana style cover as the smaller 44 but it is a lot bigger.

that should help identify a dana 60 front axle I know there are more ways but these are the easy ways for anyone to identify one at a glance.

14 bolt rear axle 73 to 87 (1991 crew cab) 1 ton and 3/4 ton

they had a full floater and a semi floater 14 bolt. the semi floater came around in the early 80's I think.

the full floater has a 8 bolt flange that sticks out in the center of the wheel. that makes it easy to identify. it is a floating axle design this is the best 14 bolt.
it also has a removable pinion support

the semi floater has a one piece axle and wheel flange it does not stick out into the wheel. good half ton upgrade(6 lug bolt pattern on some 88 to 99 trucks) but worthless for 3/4 ton or 1 ton.

the 14 bolt comes from the 14 bolt diff cover

1 to an 3/4 tons both used the full floater. but the 1 ton had narrower spring perches and bigger brakes.

the 1 ton had 2 different axle widths the single wheel and the cab and chassis dually. the cab and chassis had a narrow rear end.

they also used a dana 60 rear in 1 ton dually pickups(normal dually with a bed) it was wider than the single wheel 14 bolt.

the 3/4 ton 14 bolt is a direct bolt in for a half ton truck. except drive line
