oil filter adapter thingy majiggy

lol dont know what the technical term is but I am needing a picture of the part that you screw the oil filter onto the motor. Preferebly with it removed from the block. I cant get it in my head just how they seal, if theres a gasket or if the oil filter itself seals the assembly.

The oil filter has the rubber seal that seals to the block I believe.

There is a gasket just like the standard oil filter adapter. The only difference in the oil filter adapters, is one has a diverter to run oil thru cooling lines, and one does not. Also the diverter oil filter adapter is taller and can sometimes get in the way if you are running headers. On my K1500, the oil filter is right on one of the header tubes. I doubt I can get a piece of paper between the tube and the filter. I can't see light thru it, lets put it that way.

I took the adapter off the vortec because I am not going to run the oil cooler. I have another 350 that i took the adapter out of but it doesnt seem right to me. It has 2 pieces to it no gasket oring or anthing it was all siliconed up. i try to get a picture tommorow. Honestly it looks like 2 adapters in 1 block.

OK, so you're trying to go new style to old style. The old style I do beleive uses the oil filter gasket as the seal. It fits tight up against the block and seals off all the adapter. The new style actually seals the adapter to the block, then the oil filter seals to the adapter. Does that sound right to you??? I am just trying to picture old school small block.

I like the old style myself. More common filter and its recessed up in the block so it doesn't have down near as low either. Though I say that, I think its TBI and later that use the adapter to a smaller filter. I'd prefer the bigger filter. Some say the bigger filter are more likley to colapse and with higher oil pressures even more so and that's why GM went to the adapter and slimmer filter to run higher oil pressure. Could be.. :shrug:

strangly enough the vortec motor i have has the large filter on it, Cant remember what my truck has (course im probably 10,000 miles over the scheduled oil change)

Thanks But that looks just like the vortec with the exception of the lines on vortecs are push in with an E clip that secures them. I am looking for pictures of the OLD style

So are you talking about the oil cooler sandwich adapter, or just the regular 'ol adapter that threads the oil filter onto the block? I can get you a pic of the regular 'ol one.

That's what he needs bucket. He wanting to use the old style oil filter adapter instead of the newer style with the diverter..
Not sure why it matters. If he doesn't change his oil, and can just weld a plate over that big hole. That way he'd never have to worry about the filter geting clogged. :rofl: :laughing1:
