NOS grille and trim rings cheap

I will soon be the proud owner of 2 items that I don't want, but that I need to buy if I want an NOS dash bezel for LOW money.

I am going to a guys house tomorrow to get these:


84-87 Chev & GMC pickup parts new in GM boxes.

1. Silverado grille insert

2. Brushed aluminum dash bezel

3. 4 stainless steel trim rings for 2 wheel drive Rallye wheels.

If anyone is interested in the grille insert (no GMC letters or Bowtie just the grille) or those trim rings ( I have no idea what they even are), let me know.

These parts were for a restoration of a 1987 Chevy Silverado that never got off the ground. The guy worked at the Chevy dealership and paid wholesale for them.

Don't get too interested.

The other parts were as advertised - true GM NOS - but the grille insert turned out to be aftermarket (J.C. Whitney). But you know, as I look at it, it really is not too bad. See the images below.

I don't know if it is because of when it was made (in the early 80's - before everything started coming out of China), but it is not what you currently expect when you hear the term "aftermarket".

The fit & finish and also the weight/strength of it seem to be on a par with an OEM grille.

Supposedly, it is the correct insert for the top trim package (Silverado, with a quad headlight set-up). But who knows. Also, as noted above, there is no Bowtie badge. I don't even know how those mount - so I can't say whether it will accept one.

I don't believe it is for a 1987. If anyone can identify what the application is, please help.

You can tell its a late 70s grill, because of the style & it has a notch for the hood release.

Unfortunately because the grille is aftermarket, there is no way to mount a factory bowtie emblem. They didn't, and still don't, have the license necessary to produce a grille with the appropriate mounting area. But that doesn't mean someone couldn't get creative and mount a custom emblem on it...

That's what I was beginning to suspect. So, aftermarket grilles cannot be sold with the flat mounting area - as is shown on this GMC style grille:

FWIW - here is the bezel that I wanted. Even without the other stuff, at $150 alone it was a good score:

Yeah - someone on another forum finally coughed up $125. Funny thing was I wasn't even looking to sell it - was just using it to demonstrate how bad this current square body parts hysteria has gotten. It still had the receipt in the box from Classic Parts ($143 just 3 years ago) and you see them on Dream-bay for $400-500.
