First off I got a 85 K10 with atleast 9 in of lift already. The motor, minus some electrical problems that are getting worked out now, runs good and I aint got no complaints with it. As for the ideas well take a glance.

Buying 1 ton running axles in the next few weeks and going to get them prepped to go in the truck ASAP.

Want to find a 700r4 and rebuild it and throw it in as well.

Looking to do some stuff to make the interior nicer

Re-paint the truck from poop brown primer to a charcoal grey.

Crossover steering with a hydro assist kit to help turn the 38's no problem driving around school.

Got to get the heater hooked up cause I will be using this as a daily driver during the winter months.

If yall have any opinions on what I could do to make this a solid daily driver/fun weekend bogger it would be much appreciated. Im in the Marines currently and got to have it a little more comfortable in the next few months for when I get out and go to school.

Everything is bound to break sooner or later. Likewise, everything can be built stronger than stock if your wallet is thick enough. Strictly speaking in stock configurations though, I'd list the transmissions that came in square bodies from the factory in this order: SM465>TH400>TH350>TH700R4. Do note that this is my opinion on the matter and I can not give you a factual reference to back this list in any way. The only way that I would put a 700r4 in my truck is if I was driving on the highway with it daily and I needed the extra mileage from the overdrive.

Unless your going to run 4.88's or 5.13's with those 38's, overdrive won't do you any good. It will just lug the motor down too much without some steep gears.

If your pockets are deep (assuming this because you want to swap in tons asap) and you MUST have overdrive look into a 4L80e. Personally I see nothing wrong with a TH350, many people use them for the mud races around here.

Pockets def arent deep just got back from Afghanistan and looking to do some mods while im home on leave. Yea talked to a buddy and Im almost certain that just rebuilding the TH350 is the way to go for my budget. As for another question...a guy back from home is selling a FF 14 bolt rearend with lockers and 4.56 gears for 400 bucks...came out of his k10 since he is going to 2 1/2 ton rockwells...they look decent enough. Worth the 400 bucks?

I paid $150 for mine, put disk brake conversion on for $150, put 5.13s in it for $350, and a locker for it had I got one would have been another $350 (Yukon). I just welded mine though. So yeah, as long as it's in good shape as far as the gears and locker goes, it would be worth it. See if you can get his driveshaft too, depending on how much lift he's runnin. Yours will more than likely be too short.

Where did you find a disk brake conversion? Not anytime soon but down the road that would be something to look into.

LOL Off Road Designs, they've gotten a lot of my business. You just use 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton (same thing) front calipers. After I already had mine I heard there were cheaper alternatives though. Shop around, you might score it for around a yard.
