The Lq9 was conservatively factory rated at 345hp. Theres a guy that stuck a bone stock ls1 on a dyno. It was factory rated at 320, it pulled 429 on the dyno(with headers).

why run carb rather than fuel injection as it came stock?

Agreed, the computer park might be a little tricky but the throttle response on that engine is incredible fuel injected it would be a shame if it was lost through the carb.

Too much of a learning curve for him to go EFI.

only if he chooses...I think he would be OK with carb, as long as he stays away from the Edelbrock carb. Still not as good as EFI, but a Holley or similar design carb like a Demon may do well, if he can get one with a TPS on it. IMO, carbs are a bad Idea on LS engines...no heat risers to help with atomization. Hey, reminds me of when we used to run screens on the intake gaskets on our race cars back in the day...kept things vaporized pretty good, just run a good filter!

Because i have no harness or computer for it.
And i wanted to play around with it.
If i run efi, then i have to take it to a place to get the computer flashed to remove alot of the ****.

And Jim, i know about FI, i was wanting to put an ls1/t56 combo in my monte and had it all figured out.
Ive worked on many early fuel injected trucks.

What **** are you referring to would HAVE to be removed?
IMO,it would be cheaper to hit the yards for a harness, even with sending the PCM off to remove the "**** that HAS to be removed", than dicking around with a carb and the purchase of the system to run the distributorless ignition, intake manifold. save that money for the F body exhaust manifolds you will need, and any other chassis work you may need to do.
Talk to AJI....he has already tried the carbed route...switched to EFI really quick.
BTW, I hope you didnt waste your time with th LT1.

FYI, the lt1(5.7) was the ls1(5.7) evil sister, this is an LQ9(6.0L).
And the **** that has to be removed is the security system, all the safety stuff.
Ive read about people firing up the engine and the security shuts it down. And i also want to rid it of the Rev limiter.
And yea, im looking at G body header right now and they are about 1k.

But also you guys put out a valid point, i think i might look around for a harness/computer. Hell if ide have known about this june 22, ide have a harness and computer, cause there was one at a swapmeet for 75$.

FYI....when Jim said "LS" he's referring to LS-based motor which your LQ9 is. :waytogo: He was not referring to LS1, LS2, LS3,...

LS and LT not related in any way, except for being made by GM. even the firing order is different.
