Ok so long story shortened, bought an 84 C-10 as I thought I would get started on a 4 wheel project. Wanted a truck to haul the race bike around with and always wanted an old Chevy (finally have bowties accross the driveway). Anyways, found it with only 157,000 original Km's on the 305. Truck is overall in good shape, with minor stuff going on that I thought would be a good starter project given to date everythign I have primarily worked on has been bikes. It had a few leaks, and basic stuff you would expect of a 30 year old truck. So far have replaced the fuel pump as the gasket was leaking oil, and figured for $35 from napa, might as well. The TH350 has had the filter replaced, and new gasket, but is still leaking. I think the pan might be warped Replaced the plugs and wires, and other than that all general maintenance stuff so far. Now, after going through everything and cleaning it up, I notice the intake gasket is weeping off the front, and the seals around the filler tube, vent lines etc. also think the carb is not running ideal, as it is way too rich, and when doing hte wires noticed it might be weeping fuel a little as well. Ok so that wasn't too short.

Ok on to the actual question:

Intake and carb combos that wont breakt he bank. Truck will be a regular driver, bike hauler etc. not looking for big power more reliability and ease of setting up. I noticed Jegs has their aluminum intakes for around $100?

I've got a 305 in my 81. I've been considering an edelbrock SB intake with 1406 carb or a quadrajet carb if you're looking cheap. I prefer bolt on and go from the edelbrock 1406. Does your truck diesel for a few seconds after shut-off? If so yours may have the same problem as mine, there's a o-ring that fails and allows fuel to trickle down the carb and when the engine is shut off it trickles out until pressure drops and the truck diesels off the hot spots til it dies. If yours is blown out completely it could cause a rich condition.

As for the trans pan they probably put the cork gasket on without re-tightening it or sealing it well. Cork was never meant to seal and sucks ass. If you get a new gasket, clean the pan and trans well and put some super grey on both sides of that cork and stick it to the pan then stick it to the tranny you'll never have a problem.

Yup, truck deisels down a bit but not very much. Just enough to rumble for a second after shutting off. I put the new gasket in the trans, it is the rubber kind and made sure to tighten per spec. Coming from the race bike world everything is aluminum so you learn to use a tourque wrench real quick. Might drop the pan again and check to make sure it sits flat. Good idea about the gasket maker.
Looking around last night, was thinking about the ED 1403 carb, and performer 2701 intake. Shop here in town has a special on Edelbrock right now.

Put a kit in that Q-Jet, get it tuned and You`ll never regret it.
Before pulling the intake manifold, if it were Me, I would clean the engine real good then, drive it for a while and see just how much it is actually weeping.
If the carb appears to be weeping fuel, there is a good chance that the float has water logged and is sinking, causing it to make the engine burn rich. Put a new float in the carb while You are at it.
Welcome to the forum. It sounds like You picked up a real nice pickumup truck. some of that Square Body Porn would be nice to see too.

Thanks for the reply. Have never torn into a carb before. When I bought the truck the body and original KM's were what sold me on it. The enigine was filthy and the entire front was crudded over and the valve covers had a nice film covering them. The first thing I did was use a couple cans of engine cleaner to find out where the leaks were coming from. Got pretty lucky. Filler tube at the valve cover was leaking pretty bad, but as it turned out just needed a new o ring. fuel pump gasket was almost non-existant. and the weaping a tthe front of the intake is just enough to after a month make the area in above the timing cover look wet. You can kind of see it in this picture. Also here is an overall shot of the truck. For now.

I grew up at a Nissan dealer so I know how things are with aluminum everything. I work at a Chrysler/Mitsu dealer now and with FIAT buying into it the Dart is the same way, even the chassis and frame are aluminum. Bowtie lovers Don't judge me at least I went american. I've just always loved the square body trucks and they'll outlast the dodge trucks any day. Your truck is very nice. You're lacking a/c and evap tho. My driver side of the engine is so messy since there's a big a/c compressor (that works really really good) and some evap canister hoses hanging there all covered in oil that I think it all won't last long once I really get working on the truck. It's on the list tho since it's going to be hauling lumber, scrap and such until my ram D50 mud truck is done. Your truck is my opposite. I've got the copper color with tan across the bottom and tan wagon wheels. I snagged some silver magnums at the yard last weekend since they had good tires. I'm being cheap for now. My dad's got some brand new alloys, you know the 90s style ones with the black swirls in the center that you see on alot of 90s chevy trucks. I plan to snag them and wrap em with some 30x9.5(or 10) R15s that are good street with slightly agressive tread for off road and throw em up there.
I've considered the edelbrock setup but I may do edelbrock intake with quadrajet since guys here talk highly of them. Your truck is the same as mine as far as the air cleaner and such so you should have the 2bbl rochester not the quadrajet.

Nope, definitely the quad. Man that intake looks gross with all that surface rust. So an intake is definietly going to need ordering. How hard is it to rebuild the carb? I think I know what gaskets are leaking. Anyone got a nice handy rebuild pdf?

You're lucky. My intake is covered in oil from the valve covers. At least your engine is dry lol

So quick question without really looking into it. what is this sensor for in the water filler neck? I only ask as I am looking around at getting a new neck and filler when I do the intake and carb, and none of the ones on Jegs or Summit seem to have this extra port on it.

Thanks

That's a thermo switch. It prevents vacuum to certain components until the vehicle warms up. My truck has 2 of them and they both have 4 nipples.
