Hello. Looking forward to talking Chevys. Speaking of, I recently acquired an 87 v20 Stepside. Till now I had never seen one and didn't know they made them. I can't find any info on the inter net nor can I find a single picture of one. Perhaps there is someone on this forum who could help me answer the question of how many were made in 1987.

Welcome from a fellow '87 V20 owner! Wow, that's a rare bird for sure, wondering if it even came from the factory that way, or someone made it??

The rpo calls it out so I guess it’s factory. Thankfully no rot just some surface rust.

Welcome from the Black Hills SD. That has the 8’ bed, doesn’t it? Both of my Stepsides have the 6’ bed.

They most definitely came that way. Most were bought by County’s, State‘s and Cities. The railroads bought them also. There were a few running around out here that were owned by the railroad. Cool rig.

Howdy and cool truck!

As BearKing mentioned, they mostly were purchased as state and county vehicles. Some businesses bought them as utility trucks because you could remove the rear fenders and bolt on aftermarket utility bedsides. It's definitely a super uncommon truck though!

Welcome from Central NC. You certainly know how to make a guy jealous! That is a great looking ride. I've never seen a LB stepside on an '87. That appears to be a unicorn, no doubt.

The last year for "true" step side trucks was 1987. The later sport side trucks are birth defects. Very nice find, complete with the original wheel covers. Did it come off one of the ranches around Buffalo? Last time I was there, we ate at the "Bozeman Trail" Steak House. Hopefully, it's still open?

I found it in a field 100' off the road in Georgia. The guy said it had been there for 5 years and that I was the first person to stop and ask about it. As soon as I saw it was a 3/4 ton 4x4, I knew it was something Id never seen before and probably never would again. I have posted on several square body forum pages and facebook groups for the past 2 weeks trying to find out how many were made and no one has reported seeing one, no pics from anyone or on the internet. I have GM Heritage Center looking into it now. The hubcaps were missing and I put these on.
