Hey folks, Adam here, new to the forum. Bought a ‘78 C10 Big Ten about a year ago and have been tackling small updates/mods here and there. I’m more of a wood guy than a car guy, but tinkering is tinkering and I can’t stop.
Previous owner put in a crate 350 engine, rebuilt the turbo 400 transmission, and added some performance stuff...vortec heads and intake, Flowmaster exhaust with headers. He also reupholstered the bench seat, added rally wheels, and put in a dash cover and new door trim. Long story short I’m starting out with a daily driver with a dependable powertrain that looks pretty darn clean, so I certainly can’t complain.
It’s the Bonanza trim level, which was some sort of year-end promotional package that Chevy dealers offered in the late 70s.
Projects I’ve done so far are mainly creature comforts and regular maintenance. Just finished a Retrosound stereo install. Added kickpanel and rear cab corner speakers, plus a sub under the seat. I’ve gone through and replaced all dash and interior lights with LEDs. Fixed the vacuum system so the HVAC duct doors now open and close properly. Installed a new washer reservoir and pump. Replaced all the rubber under the hood. Replaced fuel pump. Replaced weatherstripping on door windows.
Projects on the horizon: front end steering/suspension rebuild, replace factory HVAC with VintageAir system.
Here’s a shot of a little mod I just completed: converted the ash tray to a panel that houses the subwoofer controls and line-in cables.
Anyways, stoked to join this forum. I’ve gotten plenty of help from YouTube and shop manuals, but I’m looking forward to connecting with folks who are in the midst of their own squarebody projects.
So, howdy to all of ya. Any other Austinites out there?
