New guy from upper Michigan here I'm 19 and my names Brady. I recently purchased a 1983 chevy k10 Scottsdale and need some help. I drove the truck 2 hours home and had my dad check it out it ran good but definitely needed a tune up. So a few days went by and I put a new cap, rotor, plugs and wires on it and now it runs like crap. Once it's warm it'll idle fine but under acceleration it either pops and dies or if I get the throttle right itll slowly rev up to the point where itll clear up and run good in the higher rpms any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you've got the plug wires crossed.
Disconnect the power wire from the distributor, pull the #1 plug, get it on TDC (you'll need a helper to bump the starter), use the old 'finger in the spark plug hole' method, remove the distributor cap, make sure the rotor is pointing to the #1 position and then check your spark plug wire layout, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Welcome! I remember the first tune up I did way back when. It ran worse. I had crossed the wires and cracked the insulation on a couple plugs.

Thank you I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes

Well 1 and 5 were crossed it runs good now but it still pops out the carburetor if you don't ease into it but so far everytime I've asked someone they pointed at the "quadrajunk" and told me to get a new carb and it should run perfect. Any recommendations on a carburetor?

Half the guys will tell you to rebuild what you have and the other half will tell you why their particular choice for aftermarket carb is the only way to go. I’m voting for a rebuild or exchange on the Quadrajet. I wish I had mine still.

Yeah, don’t get rid of it! That line of carb BS isn’t worth anything to you. It sounds like a lean condition. Check the spray pattern on it by looking down the primaries and moving the throttle. Should be two little streams, one on each side, that spray as you move the throttle. Unless something's gunked up or damaged, this indicates a faulty accelerator pump diaphragm. What kind of ignition does it have? An ESC distributor or a regular HEI distributor with a little vacuum advance canister. I’d make sure the initial timing’s right and check total timing to make sure that’s working right. I had the same issue once, but it was electronic and not carb related.

Obviously did not know what they were talking about.
