Hi all, I was just given 1982 c20 by my father, to fix up. It has a crank no start issue that may just be from the battery (Charging as I type) or something more sinister, as I expect. I opened the airbox to the carb to check it out and found a mouse nest that probably wasn't helping. Also having an issue with the right side turn signals.
Truck itself's in good shape, no major rust anywhere, wood bed only needs a few boards replaced.

I have a little bit of autmotive knowledge, I'm in tech school now, a semester in, and I got most of the basic stuff down pat, but I'm gonna be depending on this forum for some help with diagnosis.

I have some pictures, could anyone tell me what straight six I have? 292 right?

Thanks,
Will

That nest resembles a few my truck had when I bought it, Pack rats are the worst, they chewed up all the wires on my firewall. But, thats in the past. anyways, Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, glad to see I'm not the only one from the 304 here!

I've done a little more research and I'm thinking it's the 292, the pump is behind the motor mount....

I'm planning to keep the six in there, especially if it's a 292. I just like the lowend torque and the sound.

I'm worried some of the best may have gotten into the carb itself. Would it be safe to try and start it once I clean it out as best I can?

Thanks all.

I think your okay starting it, I have seen a small 3/8s nut go down into a 460. It made some noise and gave the combustion chamber a different style finish but nothing major happen, I would think all that crap from the nest will be fine. If you have a shop vac laying around you could stick the hose down the throat of the carb and not have to worry about anything.

How does the carb look on that truck? My truck sat for a really long time and the biggest problems I had were all caused by old fuel and trash in the fuel system.

Jefferson County here.

I'm pretty unfamiliar with carburetors, what should I look for to see what kinda shape it's in?
